I noticed a for sale thread - http://www.hifiwigwam.com/showthread...n-Premier-LS18 - in which a member (first post) asked a couple of direct questions about the item for sale.

A mod then posted as follows: "Classifieds are not discussion threads so please pm the seller . Thks"

Another mod then posted as follows, naming the questioner: " ************ please do not post on this thread again. If you have a question, email the seller."

This puzzles me. Point one, this surely wasn't "discussion" but direct questions about the item and its history. The answers were arguably of interest to any potential purchaser. Point two, I've seen sales threads with a lot more (genuine) discussion than this which haven't prompted this response from moderators. Point three, I don't see the reason for this intervention. Why should all questioning about an item be by PM? Isn't there a case for taking the opposite stance - that all questioning, negotiation take place in open forum? (Some forums do this.)

Anyone like to comment?

Hi all

Would you please be able to recommend the best place for me to sell my setup? I have read various horror stories about eBay and I just do not want the hassle. It'd be great if you could point me in the right direction and maybe even give me a price guide if you don't mind...

Quad CDP2 black
Quad 909 black
Quad ESL-2805 black
Cord interconnect & speaker cable (retail at £700 IIRC)

I have owned from new, at a guess three and a half years ago. I have all the boxes as new in storage including the big book that came with the electrostatics. I originally bought them to fulfil an ambition after listening to some Quad electrostatics at a colleagues house before we left to see Pink Floyd at Wembley in 1987 (?). The reason for the sale is they are just not getting enough use, we have a Sonos around the house which is used every day, regretfully the Quads get a run maybe once every six months. They are genuinely mint.

I should point out that I work for an electrical shop, it does sell hi-fi, but my section does not. I am not a dealer but it did allow me to buy all of the above with staff discount.

any advice welcome...

A suggestion on how to improve Private Classifieds

As you are all no doubt aware, when you post something in the Private Classifieds, after only a couple of days, it get lost behind pages and pages of...

As you are all no doubt aware, when you post something in the Private Classifieds, after only a couple of days, it get lost behind pages and pages of more Private Classifieds. Occasionally when you are looking for something in particular, for instance a Minidisc Player you saw advertised, last week, you wade though page after page of chaf, until you come across that little bit of wheat you were searching for, 21 pages later. As a result of this, I've had a brain storming idea for how to improve the Private Classifieds.

Its just an idea, but why not have a Post/Page/Thread with different categories of Hifi. For instance, Loudspeakers, with an introductory paragraph, explaining what to do and what not to do, when posting your link. Once you have created your own Private Classifieds page, you then paste the link to your advert, with a brief Title and description. Example

For Sale - Monitor Audio GR60 Floorstanding Speakers - Newcastle.

If this takes your fancy, then you just click on the link, and it takes you to the original advert page of what you are actually interested in. Go on, try it, and see how easy it becomes.

Then a separate Post/Page/Thread for perhaps,
Amplifiers - Phonostages, Pre-Amps, Power Amps, Monoblocks.
Players - CD/DVD/SACD/Minidisc/Laserdisc
Vinyl - Turntables/Arms/Cartridges.
Sorce - CDs/DVDs/Vinyl Records
Accessories - Cables/Stands/Platforms
Etc. Up to a maximum of say 10 category threads.

This would save on the constant daily and unnecessary bump, bump, bump, competition between those people who feel the need to be first in the queue. It would also give the opportunity for those who are looking for something specific e.g. CDs, or Cartridges, the unenviable task of wading through page after page of stuff that is of no interest to them, until they find what they are looking for.

As a further example, have a look at the signature at the bottom of my post, and it might emphasize the point I am trying to make.
Discuss.
