My Current set up is Tag Mclaren CD transport iand Squeezebox Touch with Mark Grant Power Supply into Musical Fidelity M1 DAC. My amp is a Naim Supernait with Hicap

I want to bring the streaming to the level of the CD and beyond. All my CDs are ripped onto a Nas

Options considered

Naim ND5XS- I possibbly wont then need the MF DAC. Could be upgraded later
Cyrus Stream X or Stream X2

Are the Cyrus streamers good as a transport? Ideally at some stage the my DAC would be upgraded to an Arcam/ Naim DAC but I am tempted by the transport only version of the Cyrus.

Are the Cyrus streamers reliable and an upgrade from the Touch.

Thought I would put this thread here so that if anyone has any suggestions they could make them here rather than on the wanted thread I have in the classifieds.
I use the Antimode unit feeding its analogue output in to my Concordant Valve line Pre . This gives me the use of the remote volume which is very useful as most CD,s are not recorded at the same level so you need to adjust the sound up and down depending on how loud the CD master is.

My problem is that the analogue gain on the Antimode is not high enough to fully drive the Krell and if connected directly it can get on some albums close or even at maximum which send the unit in to clipping which sounds awful .

I have tried to over come this by using the Concordant and setting an overall volume on that then use the Anitmode for adjustment but on certain albums I am now coming across back ground hum which I think (as in I am not sure) is the Concordant .

Currently one solution I am looking at is to buy a pre which is quiet but also has high gain which would give me the intial setting needed and allow the Antimode to work within its volume comfort zone.

Another thought was to add digital gain to all of my tracks using Dbpoeramp batch converter via the DSP option which would increase the gain of all the tracks by a given db factor and make them louder . Not sure if this would be a good idea sonically but I have the ability as I have three 1GB hard drives each with all my tracks to burn just one drive with the added gain see how it goes ? Would this be sensible or sonic disaster ?

Last option which I can think of is being able to either increase the Antimode units digital or analogue gain so that I can either turn the Concordant down to within its best noise band or use the Antimode unit direct in to the Krell . Now in all honesty I have no idea how to do this or even if it is possible so any assistance would be appreciated .

I dont do so called hi-res files, just flac so i probably dont need the latest version of the V-Link but i can get the V-Link 2 for around 100 quid and someone was rattling on at me about the improvement these things bring.

At that price i could always punt it on for not much loss if it does not improve things but im always interested in what folks think before i go wasting/spending cash. :^

I'm not into computer audio for serious listening, but like many, have a stack of tunes on the PC for casual use. I've noticed a few issues that really get up my snout (and only since I bought my missus an iPlop for xmas)

1) If I play a song on iTunes (any format, any bitrate) then stray off itunes to (say) open a web page or even look at the PC in a funny way, the music is interuppted / stutters..

2) Take the same tune, play via that oh so nasty WMP 11 ....it plays fine - all the time - anytime.

3) Watch / listen to music on Youtube via google chrome and once again, no matter what I try to do in parallel, the music stops and starts like a bastard.

4) Do the same thing with the nasty "scum of the earth" Internet Explorer and guess what.. Yes, it plays perfectly and allows me to mess around with word docs, surf the web on another tab - anything - without interuption.

PC is old, but 1TB HDD, Pentium 4, Win Xp, all drivers bang up to date and a very "slim" set of functions. 2gb ram.

I've tried a lot of hacks (like eliminating the wrong plug in's in chrome etc)

So, I've moved to Chrome and iTunes and apart from now having the interface that everyone says is the best, the experience is left wanting. What is going on ?

After a few bodged attempts to get the digital playback sorted I've finally ripped all my CDs and have been using Jriver as my media player of choice. Earlier this week I downloaded Jremote for my iPad and have been suitably impressed. The best £7 I've spent for a long time. Finally I have control of my music with a good visual front end. My only minor gripe so far is that the volume control does not display with the iPad in portrait mode. Thoroughly recommended though and a breeze to use.

Soft Bulletin by Flaming Lips and Bitter by Me'shell N'degeocello. They are both on the Warner label though the latter is on Maverick, a part of Warner.

The former disk exhibits massive distortion on either playing on laptop or following import.
The latter finds the album information through Gracenote but then will not import and sticks on the beginning of the import indefinitely.

Both CD's play with no issues whatsoever via my CD player.

I have imported approximately 800 CD's with no issues whatsoever barring these two. Any suggestions or information gratefully received.

If ever I bite the bullet, which might be sooner than later, I might decide to go down the itunes storage route again .
This time I intend to have an External back-up storage, to go along with an internal hard drives. So far, I have a 500gb main storage hard drive, which operates systems, windows, itunes, and other programmes. I have had installed a 1 tb internal hard drive, which I intend to use as my main source for itunes storage, and nothing else.

I also intend to have one or two external hard drives for back up purposes of the itunes music files. Is two necessary?, or is this going OTT, and one external back-up will suffice?. Any recommendations what to go for.

Once I have purchased said external hard drive(s), what is the procedure for transferring the files, while recording. Any help, and guidance is appreciated, as I don't want to make the same mistake as before.:nerves:

Righty, long story short I am in the process of buying some PMC DB1i's that will eventually be used in my main system which consists of the same as fronts, and a DB1i-MC. Problem is right now I do not have the room to swap what I have as rears as they are wall mounted mission M7DS, so I thought I would give the 2nd pair of PMC's a whirl on my computer. Originally I thought I'd pick up an old Cyrus amp, but when I thought about it, it's likely to still be rather expensive for what will be in essense a test. I then remembered seeing a fair bit on the internet about T amps, and was always rather curious but also very scepticle. I have no idea if this would work but can't see why not as the PMC's are pretty easy to drive, and I wont be using them at stupid volumes. Does anyone have any recommendations for one of these amps, considering I don't really want to be forking out more than say £100?

Probably not the correct place for posting but please feel free to move if required.

I have about 7,000 tracks burned losslessly to a "Samsung Story" 1.5TB hard drive that also contains photo's and some other stuff. I want to back up my music tracks to a hard drive that can also be attached, alone, to my Squeezebox Touch. Effectively, the Samsung would probably become my audio back up drive.

I'm not sure what to look for, particularly around the SBT issue, or what software if any I would need to back up the files that are all stored as AIFF files using Itunes.

Just recommend me a drive and software and post links if you see a cheap deal.

Much obliged.

When I had the NAS for about a day the sound was lacking in dynamics but it opened up considerably after that. Burning in? Imagination? Who knows.

Today I played an album from the laptop and immediately played the same album from the NAS.
The presentation was slightly different. The laptop had a more forward presentation. I'm not talking night and day but it is definitely 'different'.
Again is it my imagination or is there possibly an answer.

Just purchased from Peter Tyson the Teac UD-501 dac. Been lusting after one of these for a while, mostly for playing my flac files at 24/96 or better, but particularly as it can decode DSD files. I also use a Korg MR2 portable recorder , as I sing in a choir, and this can also record from the line in to 24/192 or 2.8Mhz DSD, and this is proving a great way to copy and convert vinyl. The Audiogate software, now free from Korg converts easily from DSD to PCM if needed.

So far I am really pleased with the Teac, and DSD files sound indistinguishable from the original vinyl.
The PC has long been retired and about to be replaced with a Mac.
Is there an easy way of putting that music back from iPod to Mac? ie plug iPod into Mac and drag/sync?
I also have somewhere as backup, the folder from the original PC with the music in it. Might it be easier from there?
I'm hesitant to plug and try as I'd rather not lose what I have on the iPod - be a pain to start all over again.
