Regarding HIFI,I must say I am, really it's a shameBritish companies are heading of to China to save costs, but British branded hifi I find many people desire it.I think we have a great heritage when it comes to Audio,I think the Japanese are great at the bells and whistles, and other countries have great products too,but I don't think they compare when it comes tohertigage, brand name like the British,OK they've made some crappy stuff, but the brands we have all well known worldwide.

    What does everyone think?

P.s,most of my kit is North American!!

Big fan of Italian hi-fi brands - Sonus Faber, Pathos, Audio Analogue, Graaf, Unison, Opera, Docet Lectoretc. etc.

All beautiful looking kit that is very well made and great sounding IMO.

Most of my kit is chinese these days though - the VFM side of things is simply too good to ignore, and I've gone over to the dark side. You could get an E5,Ming-Da valve rectified 6922 preamp and 845 SET's driving a pair of Aurum Cantus 5's for under £2.5k new, which would piss all over anything MF/Naim/Linn would have to offer at more than twice the price.

    No-brainer IMHO.

    DT

There are of course many excellent UK brands that are world class and offer excellent (but not China-style) VFMi.e. Tannoy, Graham Slee, Tom Evans, Rega, Hadcock, Mitchel etc. etc.

american amp, 2 british cd players, 1 jap spinner, and a french one I'm picking up tonight to demo, French and American speakers, british subs. Aussie interconnect and yank speaker cable and a British mains conditioner.

Don't really care where it comes from TBH as long as I like it.
There should be something amusing or clever here...

american source and amp, british speakers.

over here in sweden there is a very healthy hifi market with some excellent companies and quality kit available, there is also a lot less us kit available as the end market is smaller. there is however a lot of uk companies, arcam, roksan, mf, naim, spendor to name a few.

if you count denmark as well then Scandinavia really kicks ass

one effect of buying old kit is that more of it is UK made (doesn't necessarily mean fabulous build quality - my gale 2i speakers are UK made ). Got some 20+year old celestion UK-made speakers which are built like, well, wardrobes, and seem to have lasted pretty well

All British, except dvd (Denon - japan) and tuner (MD - Canada).

Not a concious decision to be primarily British just sort of happened.

Have to agree with a comment earlier on though I would like an all Italian hifi, really like the sond of some of the kit I've heard and it does look fantastic.

I beleive we should buy British where possible, otherwise this country will end up as a big call centre for India!

I think we have a fine tradition but what does it count for these days? Is there any room for sentiment? I guess in a way you are only as good as your last product.

Lots of brands with great heritage are no longer around. Audiolab was meant to be amazing, but since its relaunch does anyone think it is going to be as popular, espescially now there are more products available from abroad, in effect, the east (!) and the regualrs like Cyrus and Arcam, and Nad, and MF, and Rotel, and Quad & Rega etc etc etc. They all have the history, but I don't really think people buy into the heritage and ideas of the company, except perhaps say, Quad.

Its very competitive. I wouldn't buy British soley because it is British. A nice idea but you need to have your cake and eat it when spending 000s, 0000s, or even 00,000s! I do like to spend money locally, and for the littel guy to get some action, but British is an after thought for me, sorry.
You go for a walk in the park one day and wheelchair ninjas, Nazis, and pots and pans robots show up to kill you. And dinosaurs show up to eat the remains. You\'ve seen the news...?
