Ideas for a flea powered amp...

Hi,

Just asking for tips/ideas on a flea powered amp. SET obviously and don't need anything more than 10W... Fancy a change from 300Bs, so that is a quick rule-out. This is in preparation for my horns as I'm only using 2-3 clicks on my volume pot at the moment!

I might have to DIY this in the end...

Are you thinking of having the fleas operate a treadmill to generate the power, or using some of their biological waste as fuel for a steam generator, or possibly any gasses given off? You may find that mains powered is a lot more practical,but if mains isn't available, you may find a hamster-powered amp easier to manufacture. When the hamsters are exhausted, you can make jam out of them and use this to fertilise flower beds. Everybody knows you get tulips from hamster jam.

Or you get a Kondo Neiro and you get 8 of those watts... if you can afford them!

JJ, I think you're gonna need about 10W, for those, but if you don't want to use 300B it gets difficult. That's why the 300B is so popular - it's give just about enough power to be sensible without resorting to transmitting tubes and stupid voltages.

If you want something really cool, build a low-voltage 845 amp - run them at about 500V and they should be good for 7-8W. But, I warn you, it's unlikely to be cheap.

Parallel Single-Ended 2A3 like the Neiro is an option, as mentioned, but perosnally, I'd rather use a single 300B. Anyway, 300Bs don't need to sound rubbery - you just need a good driver stage which 99% of commercial amps don't have.

I had a look at it yesterday, chassis is more or less done and there is some very nice iron on it! classy

Just realised, you might have to build a power supply for it though

Actually, I think JJ's seen it too!

The signal chassis metalwork is more or less done. Just needs to be wired up. The PSU chassis is a project in itself.

That, my dear Tel, is an Electronluv amp using the Russian GM100 transmitting triode (you need 25 Amps just to light the filament) with Eimac 75TL driver and Mercury vapour rectifier power supply using Western Electric 354A Thyratrons).

Forget your 833A, a GM100 should be good for 200W in single ended, running at 5000V and 1A or so. The output transformer would be fun to wind!

How about a pair of El Spuddo monobloc's with separate power supply 1 wpc but built to very high standard usinghigh quality over-engineered componants . Great with Lowthers.

Haha... that's brilliant! How does it compare to the Zen Triode. I have briefly played my Zen Triode in the horns (one side), and the 300Bs sound like they have more life in them.
