thinking of a pair of spendor s9's ( not the E model )
how do you think my TT unisis sig would sound with these?
Any thoughts welcome.
Never heard the 9's but owned the old 6's and loved them, although not with any valve amps
match or not?

I have only ever heard Spendor S9's on the end of Naim amps. I have always found Spendors presentation somewhat laid back.
Use them with an amp with plenty of "guts" and you should be fine,

Shouldnt be a problem at all.... 8 ohm , dipping to 6.
90 db.
the unisis has 6 ohm trannies as standard... i used it with 89db and 4 ohm speakers without any problems.
The only Caveat is every "S" series Spendors i`ve heard where "honky" in the bass...no doubt to lack of internal or minimal wadding.
Before you sell the AP`s, try the unisis on the end of them, it sounds fab and anything but laidback treble... really matches well..... much more preferable to the spendors ive heard................
Synergy is where it`s at.

I would hold off the sale of your AP Tempo 3 and try them with the TT,nice combo![]()
Spendor lie on all their specs, that speaker is probably closer to 82 db

And I loved my Spendor S5e on the end of my Conrad Johnson valve amp!

Christ... they will prob be a lot lower than 8ohm then judging by that....
In that case, not a good match then....

Any S series spendor needs a lot of grip from the amp, and I would think Pags honky bass would be much more down to the amp loosing control rather than a lack of wadding. Damping rather than out and out power.

Yes I have heard spens with naims as well, need to be a tad bigger than a 5, may be a 5 will do it, but it would need a 13, or a 00 with it :-)

I love Spendor speakers but in the demos I heard, did not like the 9. A bit dull for me.
Have been using the AP's with the unisis, treble is very laid back bit mid and bass are simply superb.

Thanks guys wow! lots of spendorites out there, but back to my question, do you think the Unisis would be ok with the s9's?
i find the unisis is very powerful given its only 35watts but has the biggest transformers i have seen. The arc VSi55 i owned was 50 watts and ran out of puff when pushed hard. the unisis just goes louder and louder with no signs of strain at all.
Thanks
Ron
Im open to all sugestions regarding speakers.
I think the smooth treble on the AP's with the valve amp then add the smooth Sugden masterclass cd player may warrent a livlier speaker. what about proac's any thoughts there? Supposed to be very good with valves, but which one. I would only have about £1200 max including postal costs ( gulp!) so preowned not a problem. What would you buy.
needs to be floorstanders and relitivly easy to site, Cant come into the room more than 18"

If you found the APs treble laid-back then you'll find the Spens laid-back too, probably more so.
Nice speaks the 9s, proper 3-ways, but in common with others I wouldn't expect much in the way of valves to grip the bass properly - even the estimable TT.
