With the times being as they are, and probably set to worsen, people need all of the help they can get.
Even if it only moral support. It can be absolutly crushing to be out of work.
I have been there more than once myself with the decline in Mechanical Engineering and with firms folding
quicker than you could count.
I fear for my Grandchildren.

I'm now definitely in this thread in a serious way. Currently doing technical support for a large consumer electronics outfit and have been for the last 2.5 years. All career progression from this role is into call-centre management which really is not my thing, hence the need to look elsewhere. Currently based in Exeter but would consider moving for the right opportunity (esp Southampton or London area). I don't have any particular restrictions regarding industry or activity (aside from cold calling); I've found that working with the right people makes far more of a difference than the job itself.

In an ideal world, the opportunity to get back into sound engineering or a similar environment would be perfect.

I've quit work, probably just enough money to limp by for six months but I can't stand it anymore. Any work for a talented print design chap with experience in this blissful interest please get in touch. I have a catalogue of unbelievable injustices built up from over the years from my current employer, and historically surviving by the skin of my teeth working for other agencies with big overheads losing key accounts through no fault of their own. Why I didnt just leave school and get a job in the police or local government, or health I'll never know - but at 45 I just feel tired out at the moment. If nothing comes up I'll be over beachy head but be sure to leave a will for the hifi!

I'll be getting a website up soon so watch this space. My new jobs sorting out my mums house now she's passed on as I have a share of that, and looking after her little dog that the boss advised me to get put down, as he affected my socialising with a key client!

Good luck Chris - sounds like you REALLY need the break. Maybe consider teaching yourself some new skills (and I don't mean with a satsuma and a ballgag ) once you've had a decent break?

Chris, I'd suggest you spend an hour or two thinking through what you liked / disliked about previous jobs and what value you personally put on various work criteria (job security, income, responsibility, flexibility, location, culture, development opportunities etc. etc.).

I had cause to do this (fairly formally) about a year ago. It obviously won't guarantee anything but it may help prioritise things when searching / applying / choosing between job offers or learning new skills.

Well got told I was redundant for the second timein 11 months yesterday very nice about it .However my Wife is just recovering breast cancer and haivng four operations in less than ten weeks and now her sick pay has ended. I have worked in the Shipping Industry for over 30 years and have been on the desk through Line Management and then on to Sales. If anyone here knows of anything available in the North West would really appreciate it .
