I had these and they are pretty good, but like all the Nautilus range they seem to be overpriced second hand (though easy to sell on). I did think there was a big jump in soundstage when I went to the 803s though - well worth the difference if you can stretch the budget.
I guess the sound is neutral-warm, with a nice midrange. I found the sound to be a hint cosy/lazy - music seemed to jump out at me when I went to AP Virgo IIs from the N803s. At £900, the APs seemed to be much better value for money.

Thanks Colin. Interesting. Maybe going from my Tempos to the 804s might not be a good route to take. Have seen some up for sale and was intrigued.

    How are the Neats sounding?

So have you looked at UKD's bargain corner yet?

I think you would need to listen to some because it's such a different sound (assuming the Tempos are like the Virgo IIs). There's a chance you might find the 804s a little dull after the APs, but then they have a pleasing midrange that might appeal instead. Speaker choice is such a personal thing, but if they are a good price it's not a big risk because they are amazingly popular and easy to sell.

Did you consider Virgo IIs or IIIs? I was very impressed with the Virgo IIs, though the bass might be a little overpowering in some rooms. Don't know how they compare to Tempos though.

I'm very happy with the Neats. A very fast and detailed sound, but natural and unfatiguing too. Like the Audio physics, ridiculous value for money second hand. Come and have a listen if you're passing though.

I have 804S and really like what they do.

Keep in mind though, that speakers (actually all of them) tend to sound different from room to room (and from one installation to another) so only few've realised their potential. By this I mean: spend time and effort to place them right, find the proper anchillary equipment etc...(all speakers not only 804S).

their sonics @ my place are:

Smooth, non metallic, well extended highs. The tweeter never draws attention to itself.

Mids: very fast (FST driver ), open, detailed (not clinical) and full.

Lows: not the last word on extention but very accurate and fast. If you are a bass freak you'll might miss a bit of bass. I have them in a small room (4X3 meters) close to the front wall and don't miss any. If you have a large room you should go 803S or D.

Generally they are to the laid-back side (not really, more like mid hall than 1st row sit), they do dissapear completly (very good cabinet constraction), do give you a great soundstageand can support changes in your system.

They do like good power (quality and quantity).

Overall I am very pleased with them and in "trouble". I'm thinking on upgrading (looking for more scale-big sound) and can't think on something that might work better in my small room. I visited the 2008 Athens hi end show and only few speakers impressed me (and all of them in another price category). That shows that the sound I'm used to is quite nice. To be honest If I had a larger room I'd be looking @ 803Ds, 802Ds( which I find one of the best speakers around: sound/price) or SF amatis.

My advice: try to find them and give them a listen (even in a show room)! Unfortunatly speakers are the part of your system that will have the greatest impact in the sound and do behave VERY diffferent from room to room and also your taste could be different than mine

    P.S.

PPL often say they are 805S with bass! nope! this is not the case cause mids are simply in another category.

I've got some 804's as a very big upgrade to some old KEF's. When I auditioned them (they were ex dem £2k) I listened to amongst others,805's (£2k with stands) and KEF XQ40's (£2k). 804's blew the 805's away but KEF close but a different sound, which was not what I was used to.
The 804's appear to work in small rooms (3X3.5 m) but they do need a big amp to grip them to get the best of the lower registers, my Quad 606 sadly struggles a bit.
Otherwise can't fault the detail, sound or even the WAF, although the uninitiated will ask what r those microphones on top for?

Well I have some N805s and I like them a lot but guess I need to hearthe 804s. My room is not too large so your comments are encouraging.

Colin I have considered the Virgos but they have been pretty well discussed on here and I feel that they would just be too tricky to position. I need something that will sit in a corner and not boom.My Tempos work very well on that front but was just wondering how the 804s would compare.

Fair point about the Virgos - everyone seems to agree they don't work in corners.
