Anybody got stillpoints under their amp ?

when i was hunting for some isolation cones for under my naim cd player i came accross stillpoints. At the time i thought they ridiculously expensive. But having done some research on them and hearing the improvements the clearaudio RDC combi base and cones made to the sound of my cd player,i'm now intrigued about what a set of stillpoints would do for the sound of my Primare i30 amp.

any views or experience of this ?

I've just fitted soft silicone feet under my kit. Not sure how it all compares yet, but will let you know.

At the Cornwall Bake-off we tried Stillpoints and Stillpoints equipmentstands (about £800 a pop ) under cd players, pre and power amps. I'll be fucked if i heard any differences whatsoever. Proceed with great caution.

So much for them being a miraculous revelation ! !

At that money one would expect night and day results.

If they make any difference at all (which is debatable IMO) i'd suspect you'd only hear it in a very revealing system. Certainly very poor value for money. You'd be better off spending your cash elsewhere.

Naim use decoupled mountings on the circuit boards for some of their CD players.

Two further independent suspension arrangements isolate both the digital and analogue circuit boards from the environment, using optimally damped spring decoupling.

If you wanted to try the same sort of damped spring decoupling underneath your amplifier, then squash balls and granite slab will work.

Yep - £12.99 for granite work top from Argos + some sorbothane for about a tenner.

Much cheaper and worth the gamble, if it doesn't work you can use the granite board for what was originally meant for and chop food up on it

Funny that Naim states that regarding their cd players but still feel the need to make an expensive rack to put their cd players on

If you use still points correctly, the results are quite something, though the effects can vary from equipment to equipment. The key is correct use & placement of them (not directly on the carpet )

Tony - we also tried them on Frank's equipment rack too. I still couldn't hear any audible differences. Iconcede this may change with different equipment.

Whilst i have your attention Tony - whats yourtake on the NC psu for the Trichord Diablo phono stage? I'm considering one - my deck needs a kick up the arse since the Esoteric arrived on the scene Do you stock them?

What we tried at the bakeoff wasn't really a fair crack of the whip, what with having the kit on the floor with two layers of carpet on top of a bouncy suspended floor, then on a rack on a bouncy wooden floor as well, although a concrete floor might be more beneficial. Did make a slight difference to my speakers though. The tripod support arrangement was OK on my my Krell transport all the time the lid was down, but whenthe lid was liftedI thought it was gonna slide off down the back of the rack at one point

Personally I've yet to find single piece of isolation equipment that removes All of the componants that taint the sound, still points are superb are microphany removal and cabinet colouration removal IMO.
The will not affect the airbourne displacements in any way
A combination of the 2 is rather good IMO.

The Never connected Psu's really do lift the Diabalo's performance by a fair margin right across the sonic spectrum, think turbo and yes we do carry all Trichord products.

I had soft isolation under my amp in the form of vibrapods,i didn't think they made any improvement but left them under thinking they never had a negative effect on the sound (how wrong i was). Then i spotted a set of 4 oak cones on ebay,i won them delivered for £5.50 . Before i got the clearaudio RDC combi cones,i had the vibrapods under my naim 5x and i always thought they slowed it down. When i removed the vibrapods from my amp and put in the oak cones,the benefits where exceptional ! The speed of all my music had changed. Cold Play X&Y,was alot quicker but the Manic Street Preachers,was slower,but the overall dynamics had taken a huge kick up the hole !

So in my system,i don't think soft isolation (vibrapods/squash balls) are for me, i'm having far better results with solid stuff like the RDC cones and the oak cones. This is why i thought the stillpoints would be a good thing.

I chucked some golf balls under my CD player and it had a very positive effect.
