You can buy a plethora of digital devices in that bracket, I think DVD+DACs can give a really high performance VFM ratio wise & for example you could easily have a DAC 64 + £500 worth of DVD transport, as can high end “money no object” DVD players. This is where Ive ended up digitally, and very nice it sounds to these ears. CD wise, one you don’t see mentioned a lot is the MF CD pre 24, this is a CDP, Pre-amp which can also act as a DAC too. Sell the A308 etc – Ive read lots of reports saying that the highlight of this unit is the Pre-amp. Staying with MF – A Trivista DAC or SACD player might suit to pair with the A308. Visually a nice foil for your silver kit too. I think Coplands/Sugden CDPs are as nice as integrated get to my ears.



Theres loads dude TBH. Why not try a £100 NOS DAC first to see what all the hype is about for example.

opus 21, densen 400x something, the audionet and wadia 830 or 16. all of these outperform the cdx2 IMHO.

I know Biccy but i always knew this part of the equation was going to be the hardest to fulfill. My arse about face way of working back from the speaker's means that all these sources will either work or not but i won't be blaming any other part of the system. CJ thanks for some inspired choices . The MF CD pre 24 is a good shout but all my eggs in one basket springs to mind if something went wrong with it. Don't' Meridian use DVD based transports in their higher priced machines or have i got that wrong. The Marantz blingfest ahem no no no

www.audiolincs.com have an Advantage pre amp for £1250.00. Sell the MF pre, then use the £1500.00 for a nice Naim CD player. Then you will have a proper hifi.

Yes they do Duv obviously not proper transports but hey, FWIW its worth you looking into the DAC + Digital Pre-amp facility. For example You can pick up a Linn AV 5013 processor these days for £1000, fed from a DVD player or proper CD transport and using the front pre-outs into that Advantages. Hmmm interesting, as would be a TAG DPA-32R. TACT DAC+Pre. If you keep the A308 then adding a Trivista DAC seems logical to me. Or a Chord 64.



If you can have a listen to Coplands 823, I heard its predicessor and was more than impressed.



Anyway I feel this all hinges around the Pre-amp you currently have. So tell everyone what your doing to fashion advice to suit.
