Hard to beat Alfa Romeo for styling (in terms of affordable cars). In my experience (having owned a couple) they're a sight to behold and they're rather good to drive. It's a real shame that they depreciate so badly and that they can be unreliable...

You're all fucking mad. Good, bold and 'real' design finished in the 80s at the latest. Ever since then, we've been fed a pile of androgenous, uninsipred toss, fuelled purely by legislation and sales potential. No designer dare take any risks anymore, so the entire motorway system is clogged permanently by a pile of shit-boxes that are all virtually identical. Monotonous boxes that are all equally good, and as a result, all equally shit.
In the 70s you could buy a Jaguar, a Citroen, a Ferrari or a Lancia that all looked radically different. For less money, the main-stream products from Ford, BL, Rover et al all looked totally unique.
I can't recognise most cars anymore, and more to the point, I wouldn't want to. Bland shitboxes designed by people who wear grey-suede shoes without laces.
