Does anyone know where I can buy a crimp tool for use with standard 4mm crimp banana plugs? Are they expensive?

    Many thanks,

    - Right well that's the end of that idea then. I'll just get some regular screw type banana plugs for my new speaker cable then.

Surely there must be a cheaper, non QED branded version around?

As to solder, I don't think my iron is powerful enough to get the solder to bond with the banana plug itself. Although I could use flux to aid with this I suppose...

Lefty, that's the one I've got.

It's the only crimp tool with enough pressure to get the O2 out of the crimp.

i bought a £5 pen style blowtorch for soldering. with heavy guage cable you wont get enough heat in the cable to solder effectively.

    - I'll leave it to the dealers then.

The new cable is only QED 79 strand @ £1/m so definitely not economical to get that crimp tool! The banana plugs cost more than the cable :green:

    THIS will probably do it...

Otherwise, save the effort and an extra connection by just using bare wire!
