Sounds good, to be sure. I am a bit skeptical of the "tone pearls"(acoustic devices like synergistic research bowles, mpingo, etc)

I was sufficiently impressed by the demo track that I downloaded the CD. I thought that the €6 saving over habing them ship me the CD was worth it. This is actually my very first music download

Apart from the faff downloading, then finding a codec to convert FLAC (Winamp in the end) to WAV, then finding that the tracks are not in the same order as the artwork track listing so reordering, then burning the CD, then printing out the artwork and finding it's all the wrong size so having to resize it, it all went well. I now wish I'd paid the extra €6 for the CD.

Nevertheless, the quality is excellent, and I suppose worth the effort.

I also read their bunf on the web site. What exactly are tonepearls? Anything like Shakti stones? They're a bit foo-foo, but their recording method, of a single pair of AKG C414s onto a Nagra at 38cm/s is very sound.

Hope they get the little niggles out of their system, and I look forward to more recordings.

Foobar plays FLAC natively.



Samplitude does flac import. you are an engineer type, do you use Audition?

I use Cool-Edit 2000 and Audacity for recording, but atleast Winamp will do a batch conversion. I don't use Nero for burning, or Foobar as I don't play offmy PC. I wantedsimply to burn a CD of the download so was expecting an ISO image and got a FLAC. Rather tedious that's all. Quality is great, pearls notwithstanding.

A young pianist called Lloyd Buck playing a tricky piece called Pealing Bells by Liapunov

how did you get the AKG signals up to line level??

I didn't really. These were 3000B's and in truth the levels were low. I've lifted it all in 'Wave Pad' but I'm not convinced that's an entirely transparent process.

This weekend just gone I recorded another choral concert in the same church (my sister in law runs various amateur choirs) and I used a pre-amp this time which gave much more level to play with

I'll post a couple of tracks later.

Futher to my post No 4 above, I reported my experience to Tonepearls on their web site. This morning I received an emailfrom their Laslo Gaal noting my comments and offering to send me their pre-produced CD for my troubles so I can compare theirs with the one I burnt.

Wonderful service, nice to see that they take feedback seriously.

When I receive it, I'll report back.

As mentioned above here are a few songs recorded at Portishead united reform church last weekend.

The first two are by an 8 piece choir of quite accomplished singers called Miscellany.

The second two are by the less experienced 50-60 strong Portishead community choir.

My sister in law sings with the first group and teaches the second. She does the arrangements aswell.

These were recorded by a simple crossed pair of AKG 3000B's placed some 8-9 ft off the ground. These were fed via a pre-amp straight into a Tascam CDRW700 cd recorder.

There was an audience of some 200 people coughing spluttering & shuffling about, just behind the microphones!

messages. I have tried downloading them twice but with no luck.

I am getting the .wav files ok , but when I convert with dBpoweramp to .aiff
I was getting error messages. I just tried 'You raise me up' and seemed to work this time...Must be problem at my end.
