That looks like a very good bit of workmanship -i'm not sure what the advantage of monkey jizz/snot is going to have on the sound though.
    Is that expensive then?

Musicwave is about £700 for a 2.4M pair of speaker cables new. That one looks an older version. I don't care what's in them, they sound good.

    Looks like the XL version.

And I agree - nothing I've tried (from £5 to £1000+)has sounded better thanTransparent.

Totally agree, above £1K MIT is perhaps better value. I don't think it's XL, as XL is not stamped on the box and the cable is much thicker with XL.

So, if I interpret this correctly, some sort of filter has been added to the cable. Therefore it might sound different to a more transparent (i.e. unfiltered) cable. Adding this filter to make the cable less transparent has placed it in the exotic category costing several hundred £s. Why not just get an amp with tone controls?

It's this sort of over analysing and not understanding that clouds the issue.

The issue is, does it sound good and if so, does it sound better than anything else in the price range you are prepared to pay for. If so, no matter what it is, it's good value to you as it makes a difference. Simples.

It will surely sound different....but does such a construction justifies the cost?

And also why the fcuk don't cheap cable companies produce such cables, so if someone wants that filtered, rolled off high frequencies, could buy it with much much less money?

you forgot the bit "Why not just get an amp with tone controls?" from the quote.

Seems fairly stated,I don't see any "..over analysing.." or "...not understanding.." to cloud the issue. There's a saying I'm tryin' to remember, something that ends

".......and his money are easily parted"

Oh, I expect it'll remember soon, must be my age.

Now that's what I call profit margin. Those parts must add up to a whole £1. In fact the boxes probably cost 10x what's inside them.

    Still, it's your money.

    NCDrawl----Old, old, old news.

There is a piccy of the inside of a Transparent Reference on the net somewhere.

Yes it is a filter (its on their web page as a filter) but it is not designed to affect audio-frequencies. Every TA cable is measured and re-measured (time =money).

Hey, you either believe that this improves the sound, by listening, or you do not. I do and so does my Cardas Golden Reference cables.

Buy what you want, not what someone tells you.

NC where do you stand as a pro user on Amarro as some professionals seem to love it others loathe it, and at £600 it is a lot of money for a software package. I ask to bait you slightly but Amarro comes from the pro field which I have little experience...

How can a piece of software for the level headed engineering types be so devisive??

Frankly, not even the filters. That filter is a series combination of a 26.7 ohm resistor and what looks like a 830pF polystyrene capacitor. This combination will have a 3dB point of 7.16MHz, at which point it presents a 53.4 ohm load across the cables. So, at anything below about 10MHz it will do one third of Fuck All.

Isuspect it's the mechanical damping from the hi-tech GMSTM (Green Monkey Snot) that makes these special - a la Vertex AQ.

Are the folks who pay many £100s and 'like the sound'really happy with this information? Or are you just too embarassed to admit you've been taken in?

As a cable fancier myself, who has owned cables in the £1k region (), I do feel very uncomfortable with this obscene over-pricing for what is just plain shite components and manufacturing quality.

Sorry, but I'll be staying with (and enjoying) my £4.20 Hitachis.
Life's too short for boring hifi!
