    • Rubbish Panasonic ones with volume knobs, closed
    • Sennheiser HD414, for many, many years
    • Sennheiser HD600 / MF X-CAN/X-PSU
    • Sennheiser FX200 (for portables)
    • Stax 4040 system (current), very happy with it, can't justify the Omega/007 system

These were the first decent headphones I ever owned. I still have them somewhere in the loft. They were Wharfedale DD1's and wereHuge. Here

I then bought some Sony MDR-CD280 which happen to be for sale at £20.

My final pair are Bose noise cancelling headphones. Which are keepers.

I picked up the Omega/007 system from the estate of a deceased audiophile some years ago and used it fed direct from an Audioaero Capitol.

    Sensual.

If only I could have justified keeping them.

Have some Senn 600's now which I can't stand listening to for more than ten minutes.
Teddy Ray's way is the right way. For today anyway.

Currently, I dont use headphones all that often, in fact by far the most oft used headphone rig is my portable one... iphone 3G and CX500s. Otherwise, it'll be the Goldring DR150 which is perfectly happy driven straight from the jack of my PC. Considering the price (£30 for those), its not as good as my all time fave rig (ANT Amber and HD600) but considering the difference in price (£350 for the latter rig), the "gulf" is nowhere NEAR as much as you'd think. Shockingly close in fact. Sometimes some perspective is needed! Obviously the better rig is better in all areas but only by a small and subtle amount. I dont really miss it that much. The law of diminishing returns begins here.

Personally I've come to believe all headphones are a compromise, so if, like my system, headphones are second fiddle, its not really worth spending loads. My best headphone rig was more money than i paid for my amp and speakers, but I still enjoyed the amp and speakers considerably more. Also, as an example, I now use CX500 (£15) in preference to my Atrio M5 (£100) as they sound very nearly as good (arguably better for some music), and are more comfy and fit better.

    Just my 2p
