Interesting how this is being reported.

Personally I can't wait till people start offloading their CD collections ... must be some great stuff to pick up cheap.

I was thinking exactly the same myself. In fact I've just , minutes ago, bought a teac cd10se to use as a transport on ebay.

CDs are cheap on ebay now.

I still buy vinyl so why in 15 yrs shouldn't I still be buying cd? If I see an album I want at a good price and I have good quality source to play it on I buy it. Having multiple sources helps to expand mycollection.

Er, in what way were Linn a "pioneering" manufacturer of CD players?

Didn't they in fact resist the format for years?

sorry, posted this (in the wrong forum initially) before I spotted the main thread.

remember the days of wholesale vinyl clearance though .... took about a decade before a lot of people made the big transition, bound to happen faster with CD as people get to 'keep' the music even as they dispose of the object ...

Hah. "Last Chance" to buy a Linn CD player? The tragedy! How EVER will I sleep tonight...

Apologies if I'm a little more acerbic than usual, but I'm three sheets to the wind.
It's finally happened - I'm starting to care about the colour of my separates - NOOOOOO!

Surely it should read "People are not buying our over priced CD players now".

Hmmm ... sadly "I've-my Teef-in-my-bum" has scored another PR coup and in the national press, too. By announcing the "end of CD" and the press picking up on it as they have he has had loads of publicity and doubtless resulting sales of his DS kit now, I should think ....

    Smart guy.

I agree with Tom/Monte - I'm staying with CD so this is an opportunity and not a problem!

Are Linn still going to make the universal DVD/SACD/DVD-A/CD machines?

I think what we are saying here is that the standard red book CD player is selling less but the CD is still very much a universal carrier of data.

And with billions of CDs in use around the world there will always be a market for a dedicated CDP.

    Business as usual for me.

Ha, yet again my computer is protecting me: it regularly won't connect to Daily Mail links, preserving my delicate, Guardian-reading sensibilities....

So, is the article as much wank as I think it will be? Save me the trouble of reading it...

The demise of CD is likely to have a catastrophic affect on house prices.

Unfortunatly this is the mechanics of business. It's not cheap to produce a cd player and those that do produce haven't inproved over the last 5 years in fact I would go as far as saying they have got worse.Always trying to reduce costs to impress the board of directors who in turn are trying to impress their share holders. And the independants are just too expensive. And 2 good tunes on an album for a tenner when you can download those 2 songs for £1.50 or less doesn't help
Free yourself from bondage..And buy a cheap one.

Bring on the death of the CD player.

I had a session re-arranging the CDs in my collection yesterday to fit in the recent purchases, I thought there wasa few, it was infact 18, purchased in the last 8 weeks, total price including 1 at full price (£9.99) was less than £70.00.

I'll be more than happy to buy a spare player, if they ever become scarse, because by that time I'll have well above 1000 CD's, I haven't got the time or inclination to rip those.

    Cheers BB
