Looking at the prices being achieved on fleablay for Garrard t/t's, is the 301 better/worth the extra one has to pay for these machines or is an early 401 of the same quality build at less cost? Maybe it's a little bit of snobbery to have a 301, only joking. :minikiev:

So far as I'm aware the difference just reflects how much mad Japanese audiophiles are willing to pay for them rather than sound quality per se. They see the 301 as more desirable so the price is higher.

It's also worth noting that the 401 dated from the era when Garrard were on the decline as a company and quality control suffered. Very often 401s need more care, attention and restoration to perform as well as a 301, but they certainly can.

Haven't regretted my 401 and don't miss the 301's looks at all. Post oil-bearing, aren't they pretty much the same bar cosmetics?
