Digital Dilemmas solved

My 3 recent topics all to replace my ailing CDP.
"ipod through Hi-Fi" whether to buy a DAC and Dock.
"No Difference" is it worth spending a lot.
"Choosing a CDP as a transport" and buying a DAC.

Have all been answered today when after some research I went to a Sony Centre to have a look at a 300 disc multi-changer.
"Discontinued haven't had any for a while"
Now when you can't get something you want it even more.
Back to the net and 7 outlets all sold out I was lucky to locate one.
So I can add a DAC , store my CD's put my digital music to bed and concentrate on my new hobby of vinyl.

I'll post a review of this beast when I get it next week.

If you have less than 300 cd's then it's good, any more and it's a bit rubbish imo.

That was my big worry the mechanism but as I said I'm really into vinyl again now and this machine has solved a problem for me.
btw I have about 180 CD's.

Then enjoy it! Plus you have room for another 120 if you chance upon a purchase here and there....

And you can always stack them....There should be some control software that handles up to six, if I remember correctly.

They were very good machines. Before hard-disc automation systems became available, they were the standard form of automated playout in many radio stations.

About the only problem was that going from, say, CD3 Track 2 to CD190, Track 6 took a fair amount of time, which is why radio stations always used them in pairs, and never played two songs back-to-back from the same player. Apart from the occasional jamming when the CD didn't go back properly, they were pretty reliable.

You may also find that the internal DAC is pretty good too.

What I meant was that if it were my box, I wouldn't bother with an external DAC.

I think you're going to be fine. Given the different hifi ideologies (it really is as strong as that!), it can be difficult to find any consensus to follow here.

It will be interesting to know whether you hear any differences between the Sony Jukebox and the Arcam and whether you think those differences are significant.

Personally, I would still go the DAC route but that's very much an opinion.
