The Perfect Test

So yet again cable tests give more questions than answers.

Two thing for sure need to be carried out for any test to be worth something

"Only one thing can be changed at a time"

This is true be you testing a mains cable or a new drug, if you change more than one thing, there is no way on earth you can be 100% sure what caused the change durring the test be the change real or in the mind.

So in testing cables rule one has to be, the system and the music MUST ALL STAY THE SAME. Changing tracks is not a good idea.

Item two is the test must have lots and lots of people taking place three is no good, if one dis likes the music and another has an ear infection, its been a waste of time



The more the merrier,







To carry out a test like this needs a system set up at a show you get four people sit them down they listen to a track cable a then cable b it could be a mains cable or interconect



change cable ask which they liked a or b



then the next five then the next and do that all day 3 minute track allowing for getting them in and out, you might get a 100 in a day :dude:

Thats right Lee and the music has to be picked not on taste but on something which covers deep bass nice bit of treble



it has to be full spectrum :dude:the picking of the music alone could take months

arrange it so that the same pair-wise is carried out twice, preferably blind, and with some control over playback order.

Changing tracks is not a good idea.

The audible improvements are either there or are they are not. If so they should be clearly apparent with everything from Led Zeppelin to Mozart to Britney Spears and everything in-between. I prefer to listen to music and not my hi-fi (not that I have any Britney Spears you understand ).

With your connections dave perhaps you could use pester power to get some of the larger cable manufacturers to pay for and organise such an event? Off you go.. :dude:

In the same I wonder why psychics never bother to contact Albert Einstein or James Joyce (it's always someone's utterly unremarkable granny, isn't it?), I wonder why it is that 'professional' reviewers (who can easily tell you the sonic characterists of every cable that crosses their path) or cables 'designers' (who can design high-end cables 'worth' thousands) cannot perform a simple hearing test to demonstrate how a £10,000 cable is much better than a £10 one.

notaclue early this year had a listening panel listen to cables and the guy from Chord did very very well



What made things end up now the pan, was the mags attempt to explain an expensive cables crap results by saying it was because of the kit used



for gods sake the kit used was the same for all cables

this was hi fi+ and yes the cable in question has been in adverts in that mag

now why did they make excuses :dude:
