My Sony CDP has optical out and the DAC I'm looking at only has coaxial in.
Will one of these converters compromise the quality?

Nope..its fine. Just make sure you pick the right coax to optical or the other way around as they sell 2...quality is limited to 44.1/16 or 48/16...so not a problem

There will be no quality loss. I have the very one for my Pace PVR, and as far as I can tell, it renders an identical coax output to the optical input.
