Reminds me of when I looked inside my power amps.![]()
Less is more and all that......![]()
BORED FUCKING SHITLESS !!!
LOL, thats crazy...did you read all the comments ?
Funny how people judge audio by the size and number of the parts, and not the effect they have...
Separating the power supply from sensitive audio circuits is worth doing.
Whether it's worth the cost of the stupidly-named "Flatcap" is down solely to your ear, your budget and your priorities.
Not a gaggle of ill-informed and technologically illiterate amateur opinionistas.
You lot are always so critical of stuff. Antimatter has recently been isolated at CERN, but I rckon Naim go there first.
I thought that was what this site was about, loads of folk spouting opinions about stuff they know only a little, or in my case bugger-all, about. I don't need to take an electronics degree to understand that what's in the box there hasn't taken a great deal of R and D and has more to do with fleecing ( no pun intended) those who buy into the Naim upgrade path. I agree people buy what they want according to their priorities, budgets and ears, but surely at the mid-fi-ish level that Naim represents imo, surely there has to be at least a certain degree of percieved value for money.
What's the big deal? It's a design thing surely isn't it - so this box matches the others that are probably more packed with components.
SQ is the thing anyway.
now there's a shock , a hi fi company ripping people off. Who'da thunk it?
its a power supply nothing more so not really sure what else you would expect to find inside , naim used to do half sized boxes for there seperate power supplys so suppose the said components list would fill this out alot more but its not likely to perform any better !
its all about the music but box swapping is so much fun
I bet you could build better for half the price.....
Do naim owners driver Mercedes ?
I have seen a few "minimalistic" designs at high prices, but this surely takes some beating![]()
Basically I agree. This habit of posting pictures of the inside of boxes and laughing at the number of components is daft.
However, that is supposed to be a superior power supply. From a technical point of view, it doesn't look like one. A torroidal transformer, one pretty average cap and what looks like a pair of voltage regulators or rectifiers does not a proper psu make.
To me, that looks like an average torroidal and some pretty average components.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I’m not sure you realise that what you heard is not what I meant.
I think it's more about the price Naim charge for this unit rather than what it does

An arm above the last wave...
Caveat emptor.
Purely my opinion. Frankly, half of what's in my life is ridiculously over-priced for what it actually consists of, but in terms of the thread, my comment stands. It's a pretty average attempt at a power supply, using pretty average circuitry and pretty basic components. If it sounds better than the standard power supply, I can only conclude that the standard power supply must be damned poor.
YMMV...

This popped up recently with Arcam BD player £1000 ... that gets you an HDMI connection for video and audio (think of what you can buy sub £1000 BD player wise just now) and the inside of the case looks like this:
Was the same with the £1000 MF A3.5 CDP a few years back, a wilderness inside the case. Now these device probably work fine and are fit for task, but when you consider what you can get down the cost chain, sort of makes you think about smoke n mirrors.

£700 for that power supply looks like good value next to £420 for the mains lead to go with it...![]()
