    Cool Etf 2010

Pete, Guy and myself just got back from a weekend at the European Triode Festival at "Le Plague" France. It was sheer triode madness and to top it off there was a 16 horn and compression driver shoot-out! It was definitely le expérience ultime. Will hopefully post more when I recover.

That explains why it's been so quiet around here!

    Look forward to hearing more....

'Twas excellent (apart from the weather). Much horn & valve madness Serge would definitely not approve! :-P I'll post some pics later.

Would've been interesting to have taken him along with you and heard what he thought about it all after though!

He would have probably been surprised at how technical it actually was.

"Cool" is the operative word. As in "fuck me, it's so 'cool', my balls are going to fall off and roll across the car park"!

Some of these guys had it bad. One of the highlights was an expletive ridden lecture on Korean high end lunacy (care of Silbertone) & new circuit ideas by JC Morrison. Top stuff.

The house system with some very sorted VOT's was worth the entry price on its own. Nice to meet messrs Schick & Schroeder again too.

He does but he's also certifiable which is a good thing. Seeing him unload into a roomful of fairly serious minded German & French tube geeks was very funny.

    Some photos...

Bar system (Thomas Schick's Lenco-based TT, Sibaltone pre, Silvercore 833A amps, Altec VOTTs ) playing some nice jazz

Lovely Mercury glow from some RG1/250s

JC Morrison brought a prototype (seriously, the final version will not use PCBs, but be all hard wired with single crystal silver wire) of the Silbatone Phono pre-amp. This is what happens when a billionaire decides to build the best equipment possible with no expense spared.

Frank Bloehbaum's 6th order active crossover. These were the subject of a presentation and demo and sounded very, very good indeed hooked up to the house Altec VOTTs)

Guido Tent's mad power amp using huge numbers of parallel small-signal tubes

    Scary 833A tube amp

Beautifully made L'il Sis DHT phono

    "Wermachtsroehren" tube amp.

Some horns waiting for the shoot-out

    and the room prepared

My conical horns in shoot-out with Jean Michel Le Cleac'h's 300Hz/TAD combo (I lost )

    Other assorted DIY coolness...

Ok, this one's not DIY as this is a Zarathrusta TT

PHY-HP drivers in open back cabinets

Listening to the Silbatone pre through some very exotic filed-coil drivers in custom cabinets

    Mmmm globes!

Wish my DIY looked like this....

Assorted Lundahl iron and some KR tubes

Commonwealth TT + Schroeder arm & Allnic cartridge (the new one)

Lenco based TT + Schick arm & SPU

401 in lovely Loricraft plinth + Naim Aro & Lyra cart.

Looks like a great day out! I see that Klangfilm won the shoot-out. A quick Google takes you to their website:
    http://klangfilm.free.fr/index.php?l...tle=&dir=&num=

And you are greeted by quite a piccie:
