This is one amazing machine.
Does 24 all the way up to 192 AND DSD! Stores to DVD Disc OR Internal HDD.
The converters are fantastic, and the machine is built like a brick shithouse.

been looking for good machine for years for my vinyl
do you just connect line output of your preamp straight into it
does it then record straight to 24/192
whats best storage medium for sound cdr dvdr or hard disc / pc
Yes, you just go line out into the tascam. It will record to 24/192 and everything in between...DSD option also(which is lovely because this is one of the situations in which DSD is superb.. mastering straight from analog. when used this way(from analog straight to DSD) it is transparent and at its full potential. DSD however loses all potential when you , for example, record first with a DSD recorder or upconvert from redbook or whatever. this is because the HF that is present in the Source will then hit a second delta sigma modulator.)
So.. there is this adage that data isnt backed up unless it is in 3 places.. So... I keep one on my main HDD, one on an external, and two Optical Discs.
I use Mistui and Taiyo Yuden Discs because that is what all the professional mastering houses use.

It is literally one of the best purchases I have ever made, love my DVRA1000HD!

external/nas of course... stored in a seperate location.
DVD-Rs hold more data of course... soundwise they are all the same.

I've had the original HDD-less DV-RA1000 for over three years now.
The convertors are decent, but no more. What one might expect of a well-executed
pile of elcap-coupled cheap opamps running off a switch mode supply.
I am slowly working on an outboard ADC, but this project has the lowest
priority.
The DVD transport is notoriously unreliable. Only works with yellow Sony
DVD-RWs. I hate dumping money into Sony. They are the ones who once threatened to sue
me over an article I wrote about DSD.
And of lately the disc tray started malfunctioning. After recording perhaps 20 discs in all that
time...
Oh, and I paid a small fortune for it. Including a special tax because
I was a private person attempting to buy a pro (=uninhibited) recorder.

Then you wake up and realise your former classmates are ... running most of the TV shows.
Here's an alternative:

anyone got any opinions on it?
It can play them, or you could create DVD-Audio discs with a PC.
Interesting thread.... found this suggested as an alternative!?
Don't know what it's like!?

I got a convertor from Maplins - so good that when I copied Supertramp 'Live In Paris' I could listen on a cd from my vinyl original and still achieve that 'chi' feeling as I climaxed to 'Crime Of The Century' with nipple clips firmly on and my trusty old bondage pants inflated to max.
Mind you, the wife was a bit pissed off - she thought i'd put all that behind me!
Incidentally the convertor was pretty cheap, slips nicely between laptop and turntable and really does magic things. Try it, you might just like it.![]()
Spock will form the ultimate coalition...
It is quite possible to record any way you like (digitally though) cheaply to PC.
Making at least 2 copies/retaining original analogue is imperative.
