We are on the late shift here at work and the guys have QVC on. They are intently watching a sales pitch for the Bose acoustic wave II system. £900 for what appears to be a stylised boom box with tiny integrated speakers.

The salesman just got through telling us how you dont hear bass, you absorb it through your skeletal frame. The worst part is the guys are buying it - for some reason, Bose seem to have this 'mythical' reputation amongst the uninitiated that they are a special brand, somehow apart from everyone else. A bit like B&O have managed.

Oh lordy - there onto the wave radio thing. £450 for a cd/radio alarm.

Maybe i'm wrong - does anyone actually LIKE Bose products here? I'm talking about their current consumer range now.

They are very good. The wave radio jobbie sounds excellent for such a small box.

Huh - I know 2 people with experience of Bose. The first bought the wave radio - thought it crap took it back and bought a Tipoli.

The 2nd bought an iPOD docker - thing was the iPOD packed up 10 days after she got it!

BOSE are very good at marketing. Audi are now giving them away with all A4s before they bring in something better!

Them Tivoli are very good and I would have one over Bose any day.

Before I got into Hi Fi, I had an Acoustimass 5 system. 1 Bass module and 2 jewel cube arrays. I honestly thought it was the bees knees and was most impressed with the sound it made being fed from my Pioneer AV amp.

Then I came into possesion of my Castle Conway II's. Very old, 1979 I think.

The Bose went on eBay the next day.

Did very well too, they cost me £400 (new) and I got £350 back after 18 months, maybe 2 years.

I rid myself of the AV amp and bought a Yarland 10wpc valve amp and have never looked back since.

Bose are what people who live on "Vectra close" and have to much money and no interest in music buy. <-- imho of course..

ps: No offence to Vectra owners......Si

A victory for the marketing dept, its vastly overpriced, overrated and underperforming. Avoid like the plague.

In general there are some Bose products that at least sound pretty descent but the catch is that they only should be about one third of the asking price. For instance there iDock sounds quite good and adds remotecontrol and charging ability but no way I would buy that thing for there 400 euro's asking price when the JBL Creatures II for 99 euro's outperforms it( sans the added remote control and charging ability though).

Still if people like it what the hell you can point out that there's something better to be had for the same cash and if they still like the Boss more it probably appeals to them in a lifestyle sort of way(the kind of lifestyle in witch you apreciate overhyped underengeneered plastic boxes with very little contends).

generally agree. But if I wanted a serious pair of party speakers, then the 901s would certainly be top of my list.

People listen to kit like it buy it.

Not everyone will buy the stuff we like, free world

The only I have with people buying Bose is keeping a stright face not when I hear it........... but when they say what they paid :raoflmfao:

I like Bose 301 Music Monitors - in fact I have two pairs in my shop. (the ones with the big logo on the front)

wave radio? forgeddit? clever marketing certainly. if only the design team was as clever they might have a reasonably hi-fi product, instead of a lifesytle-friendly lo-fi ome

I was actually at the Bose (R) Acoustimass (R) unveiling at Live 93 at the Olympia. the demo and sales pitch was good, but the sound wasn't. and they were using that bit from the top gun video... ;)

I agree with Andy, the ONLY bose speaker they made that was good was the 9O1 series 1. Then Dr. Bose sold the company and went to pastures new..............

All of the later models were very poor in comparison, they all try to squeeze a quart into a pint pot. And we all know that it ..............................
