    Turntable Phono Cable Suggestions.

Just bought a Technics SL-Q2 from everyones fav. auction site.
Works perfectly but phono cable is the thickness of a human hair. Slight exaggeration but not much.
Dont have much money(as always) so looking for cheap replacement suggestions.

Audio Karma recommend component video cables because of low capacitance.
Is it worth buying a cheap shielded cable? Anyone had experience of doing this?

Have already replaced phono plugs with neutriks - er that's better .

    Thanks in advance.

So is the supplied lead broken or faulty then?

Not faulty, just looking to fettle - if it's worth it.

I'm sure the cable as fitted is just fine.

.... and Techie tt's are excellent things - congrats on your purchase. I just love Jap direct drives!

Very low level signals from a cartridge anyway - a few strands of fine copper would do fine I am sure.

If you don't have much money, as you say, then just spend the 'cable money' on a nice LP or two, don't obsess and just enjoy your new purchase!!

If you want to experiment and you can solder, try microphone cable. It's perfect for the job and it's cheap.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I’m not sure you realise that what you heard is not what I meant.

    thanks Jerry

thats the advice i was looking for.
replacing the slightly mashed plugs tidied things up a reasonable amount.
many tunes have been spun since it arrived.

If you do venture in to swaping the cable then I've found that Canare LV61S works well (my only experience I might add because I had some laying around), it's not terribly flexible but sounds good and is low capacitance.

Buy this and cut off the plugs one end for example......

    YMMV etc etc.

I found that CD players are far more demanding of leads than turntables. Still give it a go. 5 or 10% improvement for little outlay is great VFM.
    845 SET's ROCK!!!
