Bewitch valve EL34 / KT88

A friend of mine is looking for a valve amp to partner his older Tannoy speakers (newly aquired) which are quite effective more than 92db+ I believe.

As budget is tight he's looking for a Chinese solution and he want tubeamplifier only, no TT things

I heard the Bewitch is OEM for some Pure Sound range and as such can't be all that bad, eh ?

Would it be silly paying around $ 5-600 for such a monster ?

Anyone tried these ?

Mainly be playing classical vinyl, EL34 could be the most gentle" amp

buy an official Puresound one `used' for that money. Definitive Audio had one in for a bit more and i am sure you could negotiate it down a bit. plenty of other options in the likes of Primalunas and the rather tasty Eastern Electric Minimax on here being sold by Ian or even the likes of Audio innovations S500.

Don't discount a good used Radford, Leak or Rogers amp. Tannoys are a pretty safe bet with EL34's.

Bewitched is not the same as Puresound, very different spec

Unfortunately Pure Sound will be out of budget, love one myself though

Also a Radford STA in good nick would be great, they are quite rare here in Scandinavia. I heard a friends sta25 couple of years back and it was lovely mids.

Have been considering the Prima Luna but I guess its out of budget new..(China build too ?)

Bewitch EL34 at below $500 (+ taxes) can't go all wrong, he might even get half $ back if no success

The Primaluna might be a Chinese Build but it is to Primulana spec and Quality Control.

The Puresound is also Chinese built (in the same factory as the Bewitched) but uses different transformers and and a number of other components, they are also QA checked in the UK and the warranty and support is UK based. They might look the same at first glance but the differences (and value) are much more than a badge

Bought a Bewitch 'made for Puresound' A30 on the wam but didn't realise they were so technically different v the thoroughbred Puresound
In saying that I am very happy with the sound quality with my proacs (my best amp/speaker combo to date) so I can heartily recommend a Bewitch A30 on a 'sounds great' rather than technical basis

If it is the one that has been sold a couple of times here you should be OK, although the seller should have made it clear. The first few A30 Puresound sold did have the Bewitched name but were Puresound spec. If you are not sure ring Puresound and ask them, you may not have a Chinese spec Bewitched at all. Have a look at the Puresound website.
