Depends ..... I used to car share with a fella who confessed he was not a 'natural driver'. On the days he drove, on the country lane, he would chop at the bends taking it like a 50p piece at circa 40 mph. I would go round the same bends in a smooth turn at 60mph - no drama and car in perfect control .... indeed since not jerking at steering, more composed than at his 40mph. But he would be gripping the seat and saying "You can't go round these bends at that speed!" ......... perception.

I took a young lad out in my stripped out Mk2 CRX and was rather enthusiastic around a roundabout and some twisties ...... never was the car in any danger of me losing control, we were absolutly safe and never exceeded 70mph - yet he was grinning manically as though he'd just been on a rally.

You should always be able to stop in the distance you can see. That determines the max safe speed on any road, ignoring speed limits. The distance you need to be able to see is determined by the car...

I did used to drive my toy quickly, and it would scare passengers something silly. But always within mine and the cars limits.

I agree that the visibility, road, conditions, driver and car have more bearing on what is safe that the posted limit ..... but if I ever scared a passenger - I would apologise and feel awful. Fun is good, scared isn't.

Funny, on track I found that the absolute best driver I have ever been a passenger with, covered the ground very quickly yet you felt you were on a country drive - just so relaxed and unflustered, except for the rate you were catching other vehicles, you'd never guess the speed and consequently, I never heard of anyone being scared after a passenger ride with him.

I don't really mean scared as such...but sometimes it's fun to find peoples limits.

Good drivers are smooth, its the only way to be fast...

I remember when I was 14 and my uncle took me for a spin in his new 911 Carrera. I still remember how the acceleration pushed my head against the seat and how bloody fast it was - powering up the hill between Crouch End and Muswell Hill. I loved it!

Well, his GTR is under a separate plastic garage (within his normal garage,to keep the dust off),so it's pretty much his pride and joy and totally as new
Bearing in mind what he paid for it,and the cost of upkeep etc,I hardly think he's going to be reckless with it,and certainly not going to endanger himself,my son or me

The guy's done well for himself,he's not flash in any way,has lovely kit in his garage, and his house is pretty lush too.....yeah,he's a proper "cunt" no doubt

The local Nissan dealer has a couple of these indoors last year, when we were out looking for a nice diesel people-carrier They are not a pretty car,but what a presence they have.If my numbers come up this week,i will definitely take one for a spin.
On the subject of taking John's son for a wee drive, when i was 12,James Bond drove a Lotus Esprit. My dad's friend had the John Player Special edition of this,in black & gold.He took me for a spin one afternoon,& to this day i remember feeling 12 feet tall as i drove past my mates on their Raleigh Grifters.Opportunities for most of us to drive in this exotica are few and far between, and should be grabbed with both hands before some left-wing muppet turns up & bans cars forever.I'm sure the bloke was careful& the car was in complete control.

The myths about servicing, tyres etc. are just that, servicing at Litchfield, a great indie, is very reasonable and they know more about the car than any Nissan dealer, tyres are 1200 for a set of Bridgies and the bonnet doesn't really cost 11k to repair, it was one guy that got ripped off and his insurance paid out in the end.

    My beasty

If anyone is ever out this way feel free to drop by for a look and maybe a spin if I have time, but bring some spare underwear

    Cheers

1 - Nissan HPC"s are very poor, the staff turnover is horrendous, the car parks pack the cars in like sardines, lot's of owners reporting damage to their cars whilst in for service

2 - Ridiculous prices on parts and labour, don't get me wrong if you spend this sort of money on a car you expect to pay to maintain it but not be ripped off, Nissan prices are more than double

3 - The indie in question has invested in exactly the same equipment the Nissan dealers have and has an awesome track record in looking after high performance jap cars

4 - Warranty remains fully intact

They also did a special build on a GTR for the boss of the Renault F1 team, when you have a nice car you want the best techs working on it, you can even go into the workshop and watch everything they do.

Thanks for your reply, and yes mass Market dealers are never going to be able to provide the care and 'customer experience' of the more specialised brands, however I thought that Nissan might have addressed that via it's HPC's.
    So the 6 month/6k service intervals are a myth then (@ 700)?

Yep, it's 6 months 6k but cost is very reasonable, check out this price list from Litchfields.

The GTR owners club site is also a mine of information.

Yes that does seem reasonable. However their labour rate is only 55/hour, which is around half what dealers will charge in this neck of the woods..
