Company cars and HMRC.

Anyone here being re-imbersed by this method ?
Have always had a company fuel card and was taxed on fuel which included all private mileage, in my new job I have to buy the fuel myself and then claim back @ 15p per mile,does this work what with fuel prices seeming to go up daily.New car is a Skoda 2ltr diesel and should average 40-45 mpg and being home based I can claim as soon as I leave home.

Any thoughts or experiences.

15p a mile will barely cover your fuel.

As you can see from the table, you're getting 2p more per mile than the statutory allowance.

That's already out of date, you can't buy diesel round here for £1.34 per litre.

The rates are reviewed twice a year. Any changes will take effect on 1 June and 1 December and will be published on the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) website shortly before the date of change.
HMRC will also consider changing the rates if fuel prices fluctuate by 5 per cent from the published rates when each review is made and we consider the price change will be sustained.
Employers should make themselves aware of any changes by referring to this page in late May and November each year. It is the primary source of information.

I think that table was recently updated as the company pays what the current guidelines are and 15p is the current rate,will have to be a bit more prudent when filling up now as I didn't bother much checking prices with the fuel card.

15p a mile will barely cover your fuel.

that's more or less perfectly correct as it's a company provided car. the only cost is fuel, you're not supposed to be in or out of pocket from the system. Any gain or loss is pennies anyway.

to add, my oil burner runs at £0.12.9pm at £1.40 a litre so 13p is perfect. (Though I'd be a bit miffed if fuel prices drop)

15p for for the OP at 40 - 45mpg sounds spot on aswell
