That's changing Oooooop North and over the East coast here, snow has fallen and will continue all week. Can't wait to get up into the Fells at the weekend.

WTF are 'incense owls'?
I quite like it John. It's got an abstract festive thing going for it.
Ta! I tend to go OTT when I don't know where I'm going with things, but this seems sort of xmassy anyway.

This threads seems to have lost its legs a bit, I'd like to propose a new topic and hopefully coax the sun out of retirement.
Right, its a toughie but you have all summer (if we have one) :-

Excellent Matt, maybe now the sun is out we'll see more.
I think all the butterflies in our kneck of the woods have drowned. I haven't seen a single one all summer![]()

the top one is one of the small blues. Considering your spot in central france and the time of year, it's probably a common blue, but tough to say unless you see the inside of the wings as well.
The second looks like a spotted fritillary, or maybe, if it was bigger (about small tortoiseshell size) then a high brown frit, but def a fritillary anyway!
Third is easier. A Gatekeeper.
Finally, Its so pale it has to be the scarce swallowtail. If it was much darker cream than your photo looks, then maybe simply a Swallowtail.
Great pics btw!
