The 909's middle band is neatly flush with the top and bottom casings, whereas the QSP's sticks out. The former design certainly underlines the compactness of the 909's dimensions. The QSP's 'bulging mid' ergonomics will take some getting use to. But look at it this way, it is a visual assertion of the signature sonics of Quad's current-dumpers --- the midrange certainly protrudes further than the top(treble) or bottom (bass).

Anyway, putting on my best aesthetics cap, the Elite QSP's ergornomics is nowhere disastrous. The available piccies we're seeing on Quad's site puts it against a white background which heightens the middle band's protusion. As long as it is not housed in a blonde wood rack like IKEA's Corras, but in a black or dark-expresso-brown cabinet and supported by a dark-coloured back wall, the QSP's darker top and bottom casings will disappear and the eyes will only perceive the chic gun-grey midband. The visual effect will be slimming and stylish.

That's becoz each is only half an amp.

Ok, is it time to start a poll to find out what percentage of 909/QSP owners have middle-age spread?

Looking at the price increase of the Elite Pre over the 99Pre, I estimate the QSP's will be around 1.1 - 1.2k.
Just noticed the Elite INT too. An integrated SS amp, what is Quad coming to?!! The faggot sibling in the Elite family, for sure.

Thought you were referring to the pancake Elite Monos.
Geez, Quad is putting out one too many amps in this range. Betcha the QSP will outsell the rest of them combined!

But it has pre-outs. So you can biamp with the Elite Stereo and drive Quad's top electrostatics.

Still no phonostage? An integrated amplifier isn't an integrated ampliier without a phono stage as at least an option

I dare say the reason is space on the rear panel.

However, it's very simple to break out the AMPBUS connector into two XLRs if you have the need.

    Elite range sound..

Has anybody, as yet, the slightest idea if the Elite range actually sounds any different to its '99' predecessor?

A very, very good question, especially given that mint used 99 gear is an absolute steal at the mo'.

I'm in an absolute quandary at the moment, theres a 99Pre on ebay which is mint and a good price, but as I'll only be using it for CD playback for the time being, I'm wondering if its actually worth bothering with to fit inbetween my CDP2 and 909. Some people report no difference, others report it being bad or worse.

    Hmmm, 9hrs left!

But yes I agree with you, CDP2's are going for 370 on ebay at the moment. stupid money.

I wouldn't buy what you don't need, if however you're going to add a turntable later then getting the cost of the preamp out of the way now might be a good idea. Also remember the pre has the tone controls which can come in handy for some recordings. And remember you can always sell it.

Yeah it's tempting, I'm wondering if it'll be a detriment to the sound though, I do plan on getting a turntable one day but I might leave it as by then I could have more money for more interesting preamps or whatever.

bah, up to 370 now, the pre seems to really hold it's value used, think it'll go for 450 ish posted.

There's a couple on there, I looked earlier. One is cheaper than the other. 450 would be a lot considering they were 800 new and it's no longer a current model, I wouldn't pay that.
