I'm basically thinking aloud here so some of the points are probably obvious.
Most people use Flickr, Photobucket, Picasa or Imageshack to post photos,yeah?
If you remove an image from your account it will disappear off the Wam, yeah?
Since wayback I've used Imageshack where you don't need an account, so there are no albums of the photos I've put up, but now you have to sign up.
I've chosen to change and will now use Picasa so I take it I must leave all my posted Photos in the my Picasa Web album, yeah?
Now I've told myself that it makes sense, I hope

Hang on, just re-read your post. Slightly confused. The wam links are to Picasa or Imageshack?
Regardless, if you delete any image you have linked to, wherever it is, it will no longer be visible as the link will then point to a non-existent file.Everything rattles, you just need to shake it hard enough.

All the images I've posted in the past have been with Imageshack which you didn't need an account for, once posted you have no access to them they must be held in some mega-cache.
You now have to sign up so I decided to use another - Picasa yesterday, I noticed one of my pics went missing and have just realised thats what happens when you delete from your account.

I was going to use Image shack until I discovered Picasa which is a Photo Album like Windows "My Pictures" but with all sorts of editing tricks, it can then be easily linked with Picasa Web which is the hosting arm.
