Teddy - alias, "the bear" he's 12 now, not that you'd know until you try walking him.
(I forgot I posted earlier on this thread. Took this the other night though.)

^ What are they Danny ?
Hi jumpmonkey,
We had fostered many dogs over the years and eventually decieded to get one of our own as it was allways so painfull when they went to another home.
We compiled a list of traits that we wanted in a dog and also considered what kind of dog would be the most difficult for the rescue kennels to rehome.
We decided to look for an elderly "Staffy" because we knew they have a wonderfull personality but because of gutter press reporting now have a bad
reputation in the eyes of some people who should know better.
We looked around all of the rescue homes we could but did not find that "special one".
Then one day in the local Echo there was an article about a rescue home that had not shown up in our web searches near Ringwood and which also mentioned a couple of Bitsers that had gone back there after their family had split up.
We phoned up and they said they had several Staffies so we aranged to go there and have a look.
Things did not go how we expected at all and we seemed to be picked by the two Staffy Crosses, brother and sister, seven years old and because they
were not be allowed to be split up were finding it very difficult to be rehomed.
They had in fact been borne at that same rescue and had been named "Floppy" and "Grizzle". They were almost totally untrained and did not answer to their names so we renamed them Fred and Ginger because they were so close.
That was exactly three years ago and I would like to think that we have given them as perfect a second life as it is possible to do.
They in their turn have given us their love and trust and also help me to recover from extremely serious long term depression.
Fred has quite suddenly started showing his age and for the first time was last week unable to walk up one of the usual hills at the local golf course.
I have to admitt that the thought of losing him has struck home and upsets me deeply though of course it is inevitable at some time.
Ginger is still as lively as ever.
They are my best friends.
I hope I am worthy of them.
Rgds

Wonderful story Rod, I lost my mum to cancer a couple of months ago, and thats how I got Teddy (pic earlier in the thread) she always used to joke he was my dog really, she just kept, walked and fed him!, but he's a great little pal. Stubborn streak a mile wide and very cheeky with it, so its difficult to get maudlin. In a way its a little facet of my mums life coming with him and that makes things a lot easier to cope with.
He's 12 now, and getting a bit creeky, but his eyes are still crystal clear and hopefully some thyroid pills will give him a new lease of life. I'd be gutted too, if I lost him. I'm on anti depressants and sleeping pills at the moment, so lifes feeling good for the first time in a long while. Teddy sat in front of me and griped for 30 minutes on Saturday morning, whinging away, and it turned out he hadnt had a dental chew after his walk so I had to trek 2 miles on foot to pets at home to shut him up - class.
I love the bond you get with a dog. He's never in a bad mood. Love the names Fred & Ginger!

Hi Chris,
I am very sorry to hear of your loss.
I am glad to learn that you have now been adopted by Teddy.
He looks a real charactor.
It is so true that they never seem to be "down". I love the early morning fuss and tail wagging when they first wake up
and see you.
It is as if you have been apart for ages.
Rgds.
