The only problem I have with MX5's, is that they seem to be the new Micra, for the better off pissed soaked pensioners...
Every time I've seen one recently, there's an old codger driving it...

With the money I saved on cakes, I bought a nice motor..
Sam Thanks -The only thing that worrying me about the S2000, which looks more ladylike and suitable to me, is that I hear that it needs a good driver? - Im not even sure I count as one, without being too sexist Claire has slightly less idea whats going on underfoot. In our favour we did have a nice RS2000 in the 80's which we managed not to destroy in 25K miles (I had a RS2000 she had 2CV we did swap a lot). Claire's history is pretty good excepting the GT6 incident she has not had an accident in 29 years. Me I've had one accident in a similar period, a changing cassette write off incident at the Swinford toll bridge. How expert does one need to be? Does it sound like s2000 workable for us to you?

You only need to know what you're doing if you thrash the nuts off it, and want to pull 1G on corners... As Sam has rightly said, if you get a decent one with the geometry checked by someone competent, it's perfectly safe...
Most people won't drive above 6K which is where the fun starts, below that it drives like a Civic, light comfortable and very reliable..

There was an S2000 being sold by one of the dealers here(K4POG?) That would be my choice at that sort of money.Bit rarer than the MX5 and should be as reliable i would have thought.

Found it...http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-S200...item43ae29a793
Looks cracking,a lot of car for 7.5k...
Unless it could be a Caterhamthen it has to be the MX5. The MkII's are huge fun - LSD and enough more power than grip to get the back out at roundabouts and very controllable. If you don't want that then it's still the perfect, potter about, reasonable, real world choice IMHO.
The newer ones only come with LSD on the 2l I think.
Older S2000's will catch the unused to rear wheel drive wanna be racers out in the wet and send them into a hedge backwards - 2 guys in our office had them, both had fairly big offs - they were a little silly with the right foot though...
Given the decision between the two, I would have the Honda. It would be my 3rd Honda too, but I ain't the missus doing her commute.
I'd probably think - damn it, these MX5's are a great all round package every time I got a ride in one though.

Aah-ahhh! You have a woman's speakers, me lord - (Captain Redbeard Rum to Blackadder)
Honda S2000 because I've owned one in the past, 2004 - 2007(a fantastic driver's car) Mazda MX5 because I'm currently considering buying an 2.0 Sport Tech Roadster Coupe as Honda no longer make the S2000.
Geoff.
Nice interiors on the SLK, and the folding hardtop is lovely.
The Honda is 100x more focused as a sports car, typical Japanese interior, which is to say fine, but plasticky,
save some money and get to work on that Ka

I want to spend some money on her so that when I buy a Fuji X pro she can't moan too much.
Question to all - Should I consider a Toyota MR2 - Coz thats a cheap option for me as I can trade my Avensis in and buy a older car for myself?

MR2 is nice - biggest drawback is NO luggage space. The later MX-5s (no spare wheel) have a usefully big boot. Not sure about the Honda.
Neg Rep for sale - £10 a shot.
