I have a Micromega Drive 1 DAC which uses the Phillips CDM12.4 laser assembly and the same L1210 loader. I had a problem with mine where the door would stick. Replacement laser units were easy to come by but it was impossible to find a replacement L1210 loader. What helped for a short time was replacing the rubber drive belt which operated the tray but after a few months the problem returned. So, because it was impossible to find a replacement L1210 loader I gave up with the Micromega and hardware CD players altogether come to think of it. I use a Squeezebox these days so no more mechanical failures for me.

What surprised me about the spec sheet is that the reliability is only rated at 20,000 cycles which isn't very much considering it's now impossible to find replacements (built in obsolescence ?). Good luck if you continue to try and find one but if my experience is anything to go by you will fail.

I have a Theta Data Basic II which uses the Phillips unit but not sure if it is the same loader . I had a problem with the door not opening and this was found to be a light brown plastic gear cog which in the originals was made with quite brittle plastic. If you ever tried to shut the drawer by pushing it then it snapped the cogs and made it useless . You can get replacements which are made of a much more durable plastic for not a huge amount.

Above is a link to at least one supplier. Any competent repair engineer can replace this along with the drawer belt which can slackenwith age and this could supply a cure. My Theta has worked without fault for over 18 months since I changed the cog and I now know and remember never to push the drawer use the button on the player or the remote .
    Hope this helps .

Same problem i had with my Audio Analogue Maestro. Val/Vam 1250. Philips have stopped production. No spares. You need an original Philips unit, the new 1250 lasers available are total rubbish and simply dont work.
I did a Google search for CDP using same mech and bought a CDP for spares. I have 2 Val 1250 loaders as spares and am still looking for a spare Vam 1250, best of luck.

I tried Donberg myself - lots of laser assemblies but no loaders. I think the issue for the OP is that there are no spares left so a replacement will need to come from a donor CD player.

There is a limited list of players that used this laser and loader at the bottom of this ebay list ...

... and that's as far as I got. After that I just asked myself it was worth the effort. ?

Amongst others (my 1984 Marantz CD63B top-loader is fine) I have a Philips CD360 Best-Buy thingie I bought in 1986 or 1987. Some of the LED or whatever number-dots are iffy, but the mechanism/CDP still works. If you want it (pick up only ... box-instructions-RC etc etc) you are welcome to arrange something.

I can't see really that anyone would need to find a whole tray unit...

Even if the plastic moldings are broken, you can use resins to fix and replace and re-shape.

As said, it will likely be a very small part that is broken, a tooth say off a cog. It would be silly to replace the whole tray because of that..

That's how I see it anyway, with anything and everything.. You just need to spend some time actually working out what the problem is first.
