It sounds like one of the speakers is too close to your tv. It's the effect from the unshielded magnet in the speaker that's causing the hue. You need to either shield the magnet or move it further away. All AV speakers are shielded to prevent this problem. As for replacing the tv, try joining your local Freecycl group on yahoo. TV's are always being given away there.
Karma means I can rest easy at night knowing all the people I treated badly had it coming.
A lot of TV's de-gauss on switch on, so, after moving the speaker, turn the telly on & off about 5 times, both with the remote & with the switch on the telly itself.
Another good source of 2nd hand CRT's is The British Heart Foundation electrical shops.
If it ain't going in, it ain't coming out
Yes. Positioning. Although I preferred fine CRT, I am amazed how good flatter wider screens can be - very cheap now.

... Fine flatties now even cheaper/better BUT: ensure 'de facto' included sound on your sub-£200 brill big-name brand 32" is not bollox. I have recently checked many/they are naff sound-wise/fine as regards tellie-pic/1080p etc. Our ancient £619 32" 2008 expensive-then/5yr warrantied Pannie has stupendous fine loud (if required) sound.
