    I learned something this weekend.

I spent most of this bank holiday weekend listening to Classical FM (London) and their Hall of Fame 300.
During this time I heard two pieces which, to the best of my knowledge, I've never heard before and I absolutely adored.

1] Vaughan Williams - Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis
2] Joaquin Rodrigo - Concierto de Aranjuez

Must say that I love the experience of "discovering" something for the first time.
Now to seek out some excellent recordings of the above...
The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head.

My suggestions for those two pieces are: -

    and

IMO the best performances available at the moment, and both superbly recorded.

+1 on Concerto de Arajuez - one of my favourite pieces. In fact, I think I've got 4 versions of it with my favourite being Williams with Barenboim and the English Chamber Orchestra (on vinyl but I am sure it is also on CD).

I haven't tuned into music radio for simply ages because I am rediscovering my LP and CD collections: I have recently catalogued my LP collection on a spreadsheet and have it on random selection for my next play which means I am 'forced' to listen to things I have not heardfor ages (or not even at all since my visit to the charity shop). And having ripped nearly all of my CD for the SBT I am dong the same sort of thing there as well.

You landed on two beautiful works, very popular but real works of art. Look forward to hearing more discoveries from you!

    All the best.

Psst, I think you'll love The Lark Ascending from Vaughan Williams too.

Some more versions of Concierto De Aranjuez:

    1) Miles Davis' version from his Sketches of Spain album - Not classical music in the purist sense, but has classical hints to it:

    2) A version by guitarist Jim Hall - even less classical than above:

    Paco De Lucia:

    Yes, absolutely, I agree.
Have the "original" as well as the Miles D one.
