There isn't? I thought its only (small) claims to fame were (a) the last film of Robert Preston (doing essentially a reprise of his rascally salesman act in The Music Man), and (b) the first use of crude CGI for the space scenes (the contemporary Star Wars used stationary models and tracking cameras).

The CGI (rendered using a Cray Supercomputer) is rubbish by today's standards but were ground-breaking for their time (1984) but still looked pretty unconvincing compared with the space scenes in Return of the Jedi which was released around the same time (and especially fake compared with the space scenes in 2010: The Year We Make Contact which was also released in 1984). Most kids (such as myself) who were into sci-fi in the 80's watched, and enjoyed, The Last Star Fighter.

I also enjoyed 'Enemy Mine' (1985)

Probably a bit obscure by now but I think one of the best things ever put on TV, is Heimat, the German drama following a family in the Rineland from 1919 to recent times. Stunningly good. You'll be doing yourself a favour if you look into getting /renting this. First series is amazing, second is good but can plod / annoy, but needs to be watched leading up to the third series, which is amazing as the first in it's own way.

I can well remember watching Heimat when it was on BBC2 late night on a Saturday, was very good.
