     No

why do I get logged out so often

sometimes I take my time to write a well thought out post response or something and find I'm logged out before I even get a chance to submit it

seriously, what is it set to like 10 mins of inactivity ?

does everyone experience this? its a bit annoying its not like we store sensitive data on here

I don't know why it happens to you a lot, I never seem to get logged out, have you checked the remember me box?
If you write a long post get into the habit of copying it onto your clipboard, it only takes a second, then if you are logged out you can log back in and paste in your post

I think (from a similar question on another forum) that there is an automatic log out on much forum software (the hosting software) unless the 'remember me' box is ticked.

I guess it is to allow the software and servers to cut dead wood so to speak and keep resources free for active users..

Unfortunately it leaves you with no half-way as the 'Remeber Me' box also keeps you logged in for ever even between sessions until you actively log out (or delete the cookie or move to a different PC or user account).

Personally it would be nice for there to be a way of staying logged for as long as the browser window is open but then automatically log me out if I shut down the PC or browser.

Essentially this, tick the box to remember you. When you want to log out press log out.

It depends on browser settings. I've set mine (firefox) to delete everything except passwords once closed. This stops the cache getting bunged up, but also means I'm not remembered on here. Hey ho.
