Not at all. I am a hack(if that was sarcasm, well played.) of the lowest grade. Ive been recording for a good bit, but I've yet to record anything id be proud to let Tony Faulkner or Kavi hear!
PZMs can be quite good(the mapleshade guy..pierre sprey uses them to fantastic effect.. I believe baffled pzms...his recording of clifford jordan live at ethels--superb)
but they are very picky about placement
id throw up a pair of omnis in a JDisc or simple spaced A=B OR if the acoustics are great, Blumlein cant be touched. The only problem with Blumlein is that it simply doesn't work for large ensembles. the reason being that all direct sound must originate from within the forward-facing quadrant of the stereo microphone array. If any discrete sound sources are 45 degrees or farther from the front-facing center line of the array, they will create phase conflicts between the channels (because they'll also be picked up by the rear lobe of the other channel's microphone, in inverse polarity), and they will not image correctly. IE it will be reversed. for small ensembles like the ones Purite wants.. there is no finer technique in a good acoustic
