Anyone have a decent record cleaning machine they want to part with.

Ok what i am gonna try is some isopropyl alcohol with distilled water..use this in my disco antistat cleaner and then hoover the residue off with a modified connector on my Henry Hoover..
Anyone know the proper ratio for mixing these fluids..i read mixed reviews on here and also read that a few drops of wetting agent or detergent can be added...any info on this would be welcomed..thanks

Hi fella you''ve duplicated your thread...lol,
I wondered why my my post wasn't showing
I'll pop my post from t'other thread in here tho, so you definitely c it......It's prolly a good idea to ask a mod to delete one or t'other tho' to save any confusion.
= vacdac. Hi Alan,
Proper photographic wetting agent would b preferable rather than washing up detergent, if you get a plastic pipette around 6 to 10 drops per made up litre,(8 is prolly about right) I use a ratio of four parts distilled/ionised water (car battery water from Halfords is fine) to one part I.P.A.
Good luck wiv sourcing a S/hand R.C.M , the trouble is owner's of R.C.M.'s are usually so heavily invested in vinyl....that they don't seem to come up 4 sale that often.
I wouldn't be without mine (Moth Pro) & if you r keen on vinyl it's one of the best/wisest buys you will ever make

Hi i dont know how the duplicate thread appeared..anyhow....if i use a 1ltr bottle of isopropyl alcohol, how much ionized water will i add to make up the batch?...and where can i source Proper photographic wetting agent .I tried ebay but it is not listed..i could ring a local camera shop i guess..
If the truth can be told so as to be understood it will be believed.
4 litres of ionized water.
I use "Ilford Ilfotol" wetting agent, given to me by a keen photographer friend......you should find it easily enough if u do a search, it's not too pricey & a 250 m.l. bottle should last you ages. Yup Jessops would b a good bet if u can't get any locally & they do mail order

5 litres of cleaning fluid will last a lifetime!
Try mixing a bit less!

Yup Kev agreed,
I reckon I cleaned well over 800 l.p.s wiv my first 5litres & I'd also recommend keeping it in a dark place when not using it as it should then "keep" for a long time too....not toootally sure why I have that idea in me 'ead, so I may of course b talking utter bollocks re the last point
...if so oooops

spin clean is a bargain for the money or use it as a pre-wash machine with my VPI16.5 for the full treatment especially with 2nd vinyl
The cleaning fluid gets very dirty after a few hours of washing..i guess it can be discarded and a fresh batch mixed again..the spin clean machine looks exactly like the disco antistat?

Hi Alan,
In simple terms, think of if it as a bit like detergent without the nasty additives. Rather than simply use detergent....which might contain nasties which I personally wouldn't care to put anywhere near my vinyl. Use photographic wetting agent as it's easy to source & is known to be suitable for this purpose....it has other properties too which are helpful when using a vacuum R.C.M. in that it helps decrease the surface tension of the made up cleaning fluid, which helps to get an even application of fluid across the whole surface of the record....it also has uses in gardening & hydroponics as an additive to spray feeds etc. for similar reasons.
I made some cleaning fluid last w/end & I think I previously suggested 8-10 drops of wetting agent per litre but I actually used around 15 this time & it seems to be working really well, so I may stick to this in the future.
Cheers fella

Hi,
I've got one of these & it works ok

lol John,
I think Ye have me thereI did suggest though that it helps to get an even application across the whole surface of the record so at least have that bit right
so the main properties that are helpful are an increase in the spreading abilities of the liquid & also a slight increase in the liquids "stickiness"

Thanks guys ,interesting stuff.making a batch of fluid up next week.

I find that there is a terrible static problem if I only dry wipe a record, but that wet cleaning them in my RCM (Moth) doesn't produce that problem at all.
If I dry wipe some vinyl, I can pick up the record and remove it from the turntable with my heavy Dumpa mat still attached by static!
