    Canon DSLR lens needed

I'd like to put a few things on ebay, but my little compact has packed up. The only lens I have for my Canon 450D is a 50mm prime, so I could do with a cheap lens just for ebay stuff.

I've had a look on ebay but I know bugger all about lenses. Would this fit my camera? - Cheap crap

No. The 'FD' refers to the pre-EOS mount on the camera body.
How much are you willing to spend?

Why not use your 50mm lens to take the photos? If you need better close up ability for small items, just take the photo as close as the lens will allow then crop in your photo editing software.

I was hoping I could get a dirt cheap no-name thing but i'm not sure that's going to happen. I've seen Canon 18-55mm for around £80. It's a bit more than I wanted to spend but I may go for it, if that's the best option.

I've got the Canon 50mm F1.4 I've tried using it for ebay stuff but it's rubbish for close-ups (I guess I need a macro lens for that) and for larger items, I can't get the whole item in the picture.

Great lens, got one myself, you could try it with a cheap close up filter or extension tube for the close ups but that wouldn't help with the need for a wider angle of view.

For close-ups you could buy some extension tubes (about £100 for tubes that have the electornic contacts 'twixt lens and camera to maintain AF and metering) or you could try some dioptre lenses whihch cost anything from £15 such as http://www.amazon.co.uk/Polaroid-Mac...9406139&sr=8-2. These are generally OK in the centre but wuality can fall off quickly at the edges so it depends on what you are trying to photograph.
For wide angle, you can buy much the same sort of thing for wide angle where your 50mm lens becomes something like 30mm: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Angle-0-45X-...9406241&sr=1-2
