Just a warning, Lee, in case you don't already know - you need to pre-arrange a visit to Audio Affair. Would hate to see you make a wasted journey!
Happy listening fella and make sure they use a good quality source etc. so that you know tvst it's the quality of the phones you're hearing rather than any failings in the other ancillaries.

P.s. Fiveways hi-fi and Music Matters, both also in Birmingham are 2 very good and helpful dealers too.
Thanks Gary. Will have a google and and them to my list
well, headphone shopping on wednesday. Dealer informed of the ones we are interested in. Hopefully he will be prepared - though we have yet to hear back. Am sure i will take usual route of going home for a think first, but my friend seems keen to buy on the day if happy. Shame i cant get a denon demo from same source. listened to Senn 800 at weekend. v. nice too.
Seems like there is still a certain amount of snobbishness around using a mobile source though!
I might need to go for 2 - one for mobile, one for home. got some secondhand M50's coming from usa so that probably covers the mobile side. Want some crackers for home now! Roll on Weds!
fell in love with some Ultrasone signature pro's. Fantastic sounding. Unfortunately no other closed backs on demo and wanted to compare with Beyerdynamic T50p.
I was surprised to find that of the headphone amps tried (Burson,Lehman, Musical fidelity, Earmax), only the Earmax had enough power to make the headphones go to respectable levels when using Ipod as source. Although the Earmax sounded great, i then plugged in my £20 headphone amp bought off here (homemade job) and could tell little difference between them. Using good sources, all the amps worked great, though still little difference between them sound quality wise.
Interesting, I’ve a pair of Ultasone 780’s (not in the same league) and find that my iphone drives them to ear splitting levels. I agree about the sound though. Love mine and for the price they’re fantastic.
when plugged straight into the ipod, the Ultrasone's high enough, but def not ear splitting levels. All the headphones seemed to struggle with my older Sinatra tracks
