Most wars are fought for political or religious dogma, or for greed. There has never been an ideological war - if Hitler had merely stuck to annexing the Sudetenland and gassing all the Jews, gypsies and gays, the US and rest of Yurp would never have fired a shot in anger.

We certainly need armies - chiefly to defend ourselves from people that think war is something we have to do, funnily enough - but wars we don't need.
