Earl, I take it you don't like religion?

My thing is that the nature of the universe, god, whatever is unknowable, so the statement that "god can't exist" is as arrogant and presumptuous/false as the bible /koran /torah thumpers.

we'll likely never know... so go with what makes you happy/brings you peace.

i believe there is something out there in the ether...what? i have no idea.

of course the trouble with all that is, that you suppose that there is intelligent life around that might understand it, and of course also, you are pre supposing that your own intelligence is well aimed.

I prefer the point of view that most of the world is ignorant of nearly everything, and the rest is, at best, making reasonable guesses.

    you said it, Rocky.

we are all fucking idiots in the grand scheme, and the athiest spiel is no less idiotic than religious party lines.

it comes down to personal truths then..

the virulent/aggressive athiest approach is no better than evangelism.

do what makes you happy and dont attempt to force +your+ truth on others.

matters of the soul are best kept private..shouldnt be trifled with, imo

and yes, earl, i said with 4 words what you said with 15 ;)

my something is your “staggering states, etc“

i say this with full knowledge that im the biggest damned idiot of all.

Hey man, im just a poor hick from NC paying the bills with the skillset I am best at. Id prefer not to ever do anything like that...as Ritchie will attest, I am as laid back as they come..a gigantic pussycat. I just view it as something that is always going to be a reality, so I may as well get paid!

Some people bank, some people are lawyers(easily the equal of politicians in terms of pure evil) and some people work for the government.

If it hadn't been for the military and the opportunities that followed **because** of the military, no lie, id probably be in a ditch somewhere with 100 grand of college debt, probably blowing strangers for rent money.

For a poor farm boy like me, who had to lean heavily on uncle sam for tuition...with a limited skill set, there aint much I can do , EoS.

I don't have your quick wit, or CheshireBob's dashing good looks, or Chumpys knack for oration.

Teddy, can you please clarify what you mean by "blowing strangers for rent money" as it may have different connotations over here

I understand better than most what it's like to see the military as your only option - I'm willing to bet I have fewer formal qualifications than you do, and aged 16 I got as far as induction training for the army before my exam results came in: I was predicted to fail every subject - no surprise because I'd fallen out of education and into a LOT of trouble.
I had no idea, Earl. Truly. Maybe that's why I think a lot of you, sensing the vagabond, reckless spirit(surely covered now by having moved to a respectable status in life!)

I also agree about the linear thinking. Dissension is not allowed.. I toe the line because I have to keep my job, but believe it or not it goes against every single instinct I have to do so. I've always been a rebellious prick.

On that same train of thought, a hateful bastard of a man that was one of my ranger school instructors , pure evil incarnate....once told me that criminals, thugs, and those who come from hard times often make the very best soldiers. While I am far from the best at what I do, ive seen it ring true more than once. I wonder why that is. It is a theme we often see in literature and television(game of thrones being a good example, the night watch guys being recruited from the dregs of society). it fascinates me.

I actually used to work at a florist from age 15-18. The owner, a very flamboyant man, would hire nothing but young, good looking boys. He never touched any of us, but there was no question where his mind was. He sometimes paid us extra if he was in a good mood, so I always wore sleeveless, tight shirts to drum up bigger tips . My job was solely to make bud vases and blow up the balloons
