Um, no they don't - indeed the World would be a better place if we stopped acting like monumental pricks and used some other part of our anatomy to think with.

Most wars are fought for political or religious dogma, or for greed. There has never been an ideological war - if Hitler had merely stuck to annexing the Sudetenland and gassing all the Jews, gypsies and gays, the US and rest of Yurp would never have fired a shot in anger.

We certainly need armies - chiefly to defend ourselves from people that think war is something we have to do, funnily enough - but wars we don't need.

Earl, I take it you don't like religion?

My thing is that the nature of the universe, god, whatever is unknowable, so the statement that "god can't exist" is as arrogant and presumptuous/false as the bible /koran /torah thumpers.

we'll likely never know... so go with what makes you happy/brings you peace.

i believe there is something out there in the ether...what? i have no idea.

I don't like people abrogating their responsibilities - moral, intellectual, philosophical, factual, actual - any kind, it leads to lies, hypocrisy, delusion, ignorance, fear, guilt, abuse, war, suffering and death.

Religion per se doesn't extoll most of these as virtues unless wilfully misinterpreted, however it is all too easy for credulous, superstitious people to do just that and use religion as their excuse for the horrible actions.

It is inexcusable in any sentient being, but when intelligent people like you come out with hippy-dippy "something-out-there" stuff, I could cry*...

What's out there isn't "god", it's staggering layers of complexity and unimaginable realms of consciousness and Being as yet unknown and unexplored. But we will, one day. And what we will find is nothing like any god as conceived by any religion.

of course the trouble with all that is, that you suppose that there is intelligent life around that might understand it, and of course also, you are pre supposing that your own intelligence is well aimed.

I prefer the point of view that most of the world is ignorant of nearly everything, and the rest is, at best, making reasonable guesses.

Kind of, well, at best - ironic - from a paid, armed enforcer of other people's deeply flawed vision of "truth" Teddy Ray.

Personally I've never met an atheist that wants to kill anybody for believing anything, even though we know full-well that evolutionarily that would be the best for our species...

Hey man, im just a poor hick from NC paying the bills with the skillset I am best at. Id prefer not to ever do anything like that...as Ritchie will attest, I am as laid back as they come..a gigantic pussycat. I just view it as something that is always going to be a reality, so I may as well get paid!

Some people bank, some people are lawyers(easily the equal of politicians in terms of pure evil) and some people work for the government.

If it hadn't been for the military and the opportunities that followed **because** of the military, no lie, id probably be in a ditch somewhere with 100 grand of college debt, probably blowing strangers for rent money.

For a poor farm boy like me, who had to lean heavily on uncle sam for tuition...with a limited skill set, there aint much I can do , EoS.

I don't have your quick wit, or CheshireBob's dashing good looks, or Chumpys knack for oration.
