After reading the thread on FOPP going / gone bust... it got me thinking of my latest CD I bought. I realise there is a thread for what people are currently listening to, but forgive me if it has already been done, but how about a thread recommending sources of CDs and Vinyl other than ebay. Here in Geordieland, there are the usual High street outlets, Virgin - HMV - WHSmith etc. However I would not recommend them per se, as some of their normal prices are a joke. There are Internet sites also like Amazon, Play.com, which usually come up on general Internet searches. What I am also suggesting with this thread is when people come across some bargains, to let other wammers know so that the opportunity can be taken advantage of.

For example yesterday I bought Icky Thump by White Stripes from Morrisons for ツ」7. IMO thats cheap and worth it. I got Police boxed set in HMV Edinburgh for ツ」14 recently, when I went into my local HMV to get another for my son, I found the one in Edinburgh had been wrongly priced and it should have been ツ」40!.

I often look in Woolworth's as they often have some cracking bargains, from as little as a ツ」1.

    Windows Newcastle (often overlooked)

Steel Wheels 36 St. Mary's Place Newcastle

    RPM High Bridge Newcastle

Spin CDs & CDEXPRESS High Bridge

Music Zone Metro Centre & Sunderland

Oldhitz The Vinyl Frontier! 69 Grainger Street

    HMV Newcastle (Sales only)

    Virgin Newcastle (Sales only)

    WH.Smith Newcastle(Sales only)

    Woolworth's Newcastle (Sales only)

    Morrisons Anywhere

You could also check out Roots2Music down on the bottom of Westgate Rd, if you like "world", blues, country, Americana. They have some unusual stuff & often a sale rack. Quite a bit of my CD budget has gone their in the last few years.

If you like classical, try www.mdt.co.uk , Griffo just tipped me off to that - prices are good, various special offers & my wish list is already alarmingly large after a day!!!!!! Thanks, Griffo... I'll send you the bills!

I was recommended this cost comparison site for buying CD's on-line. I haven't got around to using it yet, but it sure looks handy

If you're in Bakewell in Derbyshire, check out The Bakewell Book Shop, they keep some great cd's and vinyl there, Keith the owner is a great guy, and they have a selection of stuff from blues, early R'n'B, tons of 70's albums from artists like Yes, Floyd, Supertramp, Family, Nick Drake,Zep, Hendrix, (obviously 60's too) and loads more really esoteric stuff.
A little higher priced than the chains, but hey, its a one man business, and he does have a good selection at ツ」7.99.
