Except Milner at least got some (not exactly one a minute, but more than anyone else) decent balls into the box

Yes Craig he is a better crosser . Walcott for all his pace has always been mediocre at that part of his game . On another matter why the fuck doesn't Ashley Cole go on and cross the ball on the overlap . He did it once last night

I reckon they should be paid more.

He normally does for Chelsea (although less so than when he was younger). I thought I'd read somewhere that Hodgson doesn't like his full backs getting too far forward. Maybe he was under instructions not to.

Shame really, that run, cross, header back by Carroll and Rooneys misplaced overhead kick was England's most dangerous move in the last hour of the match.

I thought Young was pathetic and Rooney, don't even get me started - just where has that fat lump's first touch gone? World class my arse, how many tournaments does he need?

On the positive side Joe Hart is a real performer with loads of bottle - all he needs now is 10 in front of him who can actually do their job...

Rooney seemed patently unfit but from reading the usual suspects (that'd be the MOTD gang) anyone would think he was just coming back from 2 years in traction, not a minor niggle at the end of the season - yet he was puffing like Ivor the bloody engine already in the first half.

As for the world class hyperbole, nobody - and I mean nobody - who is supposedly world class has such a shoddy first touch regardless of form and fitness. You could put fatty Platini out there and he'd have a better first touch while eating a pastie. Rooney just wasn't at the races and less than ordinary.

What I really don't understand is the Milner hate. He was probably our most creative player in the first half yesterday, and it's hardly fair to blame him once the wheels fell off the whole show. Given that the alternative is Walcott I'd rather go with Milner TBH: Walcott was entirely anonymous against Sweden (30 minutes, one touch) and offered absolutely bugger all yesterday.

Coming on with fresh legs surely he has to be providing an outlet for the rest of the shagged out cloggers in midfield, yet he played as deep as the ocean and offered no agressive runs nor dribbles. Given that our only threat seemed to be from set pieces, a rampagaing Walcott looking for a free kick was priority #1
Rooney's problems are twofold - 1. Too many Marlboro Lights, 2. Living off his past reputation. Since Euro 2004 he has never really done it for England.

I don't understand the Milner-hate either. His managers at Leeds United, Man City, Aston Villa, Newcastle and whatever England manager he has played under (Hodgson, Capello and Stuart Pearce at Under-21 level) cannot all be wrong. The problem he has in an England shirt is he is asked/needs to help Glen Johnson defend.

Neither of which seem to prevent him from playing well for Man Utd.

Downing must be real shite, because he was behind Ashley Young (who was a pale shadow of his MUFC form this season).

    lets face it, we lacked a cutting edge against any kind of decent team, which I think was due to;
    1. Rooney being out of form / fitness and triple marked and should not have been played, we played better when he wasn't playing.
    2. Playing the wrong formation, it should have been 4 3 3, with Welbeck as the lone striker and Milner as a centre midfield.
    3. We can't pass more than three times to our own team.
    4. We don't close the opposition players down in our half ffs.

Wingers used to go PAST people and centre.
Valencia, for example. Ron no 2.....
Ashley Young had a great game in the Arsen 8-2 game, but generally? Not brilliant.

Do they get their talent trained out of them by their managers? Too much computer analysis of miles run etc?
Even Spain were annoying....USE THE WINGER! gets uttered often here!

Rooney has fantastic talent. But last World Cup he was embarrassing. In these Euros he was a waste of food. I say, leave him out now, he's blown it.
But Ashley Young, rubbish as he was this time, should get another chance. He can be a major player.
