I have a pair of these superbly made French full range drive units but have not got round to building a definitive speaker with them.

I have looked at open baffle and semi open baffle as in Oceillia, Auditorium 23 and Musical Affairs.

Does any one have any experience with any of the above speakers or these drive units?

Yes, but only in a speaker (Ocellia Calliope .21 Grandis Signature)
Lovely sound (and visitors concur!)
They MIGHT work as OB as I seem to recall the maker testing them that way. See 'Ocellia Factory tour' in 6 Moons archive section to conjure up lovely mages.
Whereabouts are you? I'm in Bristol.
Which units do you have? (Concentric or not?)
I'd think that a big conventional box isn't the way to go!

I have come across the Calliope on the internet, they look superb and the design is really appealing! I would love to hear them?
My PHY units are the copper voice coil basic 21lb15 without the tweeter added.
The reso box has thin walls (3mm ply) and a large ish non damped box which will, I believe, at certain frequencies resonate to enhace the drive output.


I have tried simple plywood boxes but with limited bass output! So need to explore the semi open baffle options.

I have heard Chris's system and Ocellia speakers and they are totally awesome...amazing purity, incredible connection with the music. I suspect the design of the box is just as important as the driver unit! The designer of the driver, now deceased, did use them in open baffles, sometimes consisting of a wall with 20 tons of concrete!!! There is a factory tour on you tube which shows his office system with open baffles made of wood, about 12 feet high!! Mad as you like....love it

I to have Resoboxes - Auditorium23 Solovox's. They are according to some reviewers better suited to T/T's which i will be installing soon. Needless to say they sound great on my CD player especially Folk, Blues & Female voices etc. Still moving them around and changing cables so could get better.

I didn't find cable differences re Ocellias. But then, my ears are +50 years old.....and I'm a cable-sceptic.
But I find most music is fine via PHYs.
It's just a way of transmitting soundwaves to our ears well!
