Never tried WE in my amp. Love the AVVTs, would also love to try EML. Sophia Carbon plates didn't float my boat, look good though!

Are yours the "new" Western Electric from the production run a few years ago before the company finally folded? If so, they claimed a life of 40,000 hours.
My quad have been in for about 4 1/2 years and have had about 3,000 hours use, probably. They still sound superb, and test the same as when I bought them!

Know what's important, go for it, and value it when you get it.
The ones I have seen test pretty much the same up to somewhere between 5 and 7 years, then start to go off sonically, then short out and can take the amp with them.sweet!
If the tubes are for your Border Patrol amp, don't go for mesh plates, they have a lower power rating and wont play nicely in your BP. I believe Gary currently uses Electro Harmonix is his current BP amps
best of luck

I use the Gold Grid EH ones in my home amp but I have had a couple of iffy ones with parts of the filament going off (apparently) & other parts glowing brighter. They sound ok but they're no WE. But for day in day out use they are fine. Put the WE's back in if you have a weekend at home to yourself!
Which brands of tube that Audionote UK are using in their P4?
John Peel said, "Life is full of surface noises." Obviously he never heard my rig!
