Wouldn't be the first time that Apple (and of course others) have not tested properly before bringing a new product to market.

I was interested in one of the new 160GB 'classic' iPods but according to this article the sound quality is down on previous versions.

I have an old style 80gb iPOD video which with the Senns isn't bad as MP3/Portables go. Don't use lossless either.

Just bought an 80 gig iPod Classic. Didn't see this thread! Doh! Ah well, I'm sure it doesn't sound too bad. I'll do a comparison before I flog my old 4th Gen 20 gig iPod...

(anyone want to buy a 4th Gen 20gb iPod?)

I have avoided the iPod revolution so far. I dont see anything that will change that.

So much for Apple combating the reliability problems. With such a prominent market leading position they can afford it, but these things really shouldn't happen.

    New iPod:

Looks and sounds fab (via my Sennheisers or Etymotics). Great GUI. Easy to use. Latest version of iTunes is a cinch to use.

Integrates very nicely with my Alpine IDA-X001 car stereo too.

Lovely. So. Why are people still dissing the iPod? I know a couple of others with new 'classics' and they're all 'appy as Larry...

.... and... and.. what reliability problems? My previous iPod was completely fault-free.

They're finally catching up with Microsoft.

I have an iPod and an Intel Mac. Never had a moments trouble with either. 100% reliability record.

It's interesting that in the pursuit of yet more profit, Apple have dropped the Wolfson chipset from the new Classic range. This may be the reason the sound quality is allegedly inferior to the outgoing model?

Apple - iTunes is useful for downloading track (even if it is not 24bit WAV)not available elsewhere - like I did this morning.

Fair enough, if you don't like the idea of taking 20gb+ of music around in your pocket :p
