Best-Selling Desktop irDAC Gets A Major Performance Upgrade

Blending ingredients from Arcam’s 2016 range and their intensive R&D programme, the best-selling desktop irDAC gets a major performance and function upgrade.

For 2016 we’ve taken our hugely successful irDAC, updated it, improved it, added Bluetooth aptX streaming, an audiophile-grade headphone amp, direct/remote volume, input control and more. The irDAC-II offers a substantial jump in audio quality over its predecessor and adds exceptional usage flexibility, all at a a very sensible price.

– New ESS Sabre DAC
– New internal circuit upgrade
– New audiophile headphone amplifier
– New Bluetooth aptX streaming input

A high quality DAC with the right inputs, outputs and control options, is vital for a modern digital consumer. With even higher performance than its award winning predecessor, the irDAC-II is the true heart of a digital music system,

The irDAC-II can be connected to a host of different types of digital sources, including asynchronous USB, Bluetooth, Optical and Coaxial Digital. All inputs can be controlled through an IR remote that also gives transport control of a PC or Mac USB source.

– 6 Digital inputs 2 x Coax, 2 x Optical & Asynchronous USB, plus Bluetooth aptX Low Latency
– Full 24/192 and DSD128 support
– ESS ES9016 Sabre DAC
– Fixed & variable analogue output
– IR remote control handset
– High-end audiophile-grade circuitry
– High-quality headphone amplifier
– Stylish cast aluminium anti-vibration casework

arcam irDAC II

Arcam were the first company to launch an outboard DAC way back in 1987 and re-entered the audio DAC market with the rDAC a few years ago, continuing with the hugely successful irDAC.
Replacing the irDAC, the new irDAC-II continues the story, adding advanced Bluetooth aptX connectivity, a headphone amplifier and DSD128 support. The irDAC-II comes packed with cutting edge technology and features that will benefit the most demanding user.

The outstanding ESS Sabre DAC delivers performance unmatched in this price category. Areas like isolation of the digital and analogue stages, ultra-low noise power supplies and a direct coupled signal path make a big difference. Jitter reduction is an obsession within our engineering team. They have applied their experience in the irDAC-II to produce a signal that is almost jitter free.

The headphone output stage has been taken from the flagship A49 amplifier and is capable of driving demanding headphones. Both fixed and variable line outputs are also available, allowing for system building flexibility.

With expensive audiophile grade components throughout and more than 40 years of analogue and 25 years of digital audio design experience, Arcam have engineered the irDAC-II to be a simple, “plug and play” device, but one that delivers remarkable audio quality.
