And...? Is one objectively better? You'd hope so for the price difference.
Well it's not as easy as it should be.

Firstly The Sabaj has a nice display and easy menu system, so beats the Mojo there, and has both an unbalanced 3.5 output as well as 2,5 balanced output. I recently bought a balanced cable for both the Denon and the HD600 so I could test the balanced output out, and it made a noticeable improvement to the HD600 in particlaur.

Once I level matched, the Mojo in Line out mode is quite high (3v), then they are closer then they should be at the price difference. The Mojo is a better but the Sabaj highlights how the Mojo has a rolled off treble and more (false) weight in the bass. That extra weight (and it creeps in to the midband as well) does make the Mojo not very suitable for complex dense music, imo, but there's no doubt it has a "nice" sound.

I'm thinking of doing a change in this downstairs system and thought I'd give the two a play while I do some saving. It's given some serious food for thought.

I had the Elear I think are these up from them?
griffo has joined the BBC.

The Big Boys Club.

You like 'em?

@Lawrence001 They are Elegia which I think were up from the Elex and about the same as the Elear - if what I've read is accurate - sort of below the Clear. These were Focal's first go at closed backs and were discontinued back in 2020. I had been searching Focals as I wanted to try some, a site I went on must have put something in a cookie as I got an email saying they still had some and now reduced down to £445. So I bit.

@JANDL100 Oh crikey yes. These are a step up from what I have, Can't stop listening to them at the moment.

And after a bit of fiddling MQA is going, let's see what all the fuss/controversy is about now.

I only use headphones for songwriting, and I have AKG K701 phones and an Audient iD4 interface. Happy with both - the Audient has good mic inputs.

Matching A20H headphone amp just arrived, along with cables to let me connect everything balanced. First time I've really had a balanced setup. Luckily the headphone cable will fit both the Elegia and the D5200 if I feel the need to have a bit of a swap round.

My current headphone setup, all currently using the phone amp in my Linn Majik DSM/2. This amp isn’t really adequate for the 600 ohm DT990s, so I’m on the lookout for a separate amp. The headphone stand, incidentally, is made from the valve of a Rolls Royce merlin engine, mounted into a piece of oiled beech spalt wood. It works well.

This is my Stax setup. The amp is a one-off built by a friend of mine and about as good as it gets. I use an ARC CD9 as source connected with Atlas Asimi balanced cable. The combo into Stax 009S sounded bloody good - I say sounded because my hearing took a sudden hit back in Nov. and nothing sounds the same any more. Was going to investigate the new X9000 cans but no point now.

That looks very nice. I have just bought my first tube based HPA and am enjoying it very much.

I have these which I use direct from my Marantz amp (with a Van Damme cable) or wireless from my phone with Tidal. They suit me fine as I don't listen through phones very much. I used to have a good headphone amp but I was hardly using it.
