  1. I've exchanged a couple of messages with BC. I think he just wants a bit of P&Q at this time which in my view is understandable. I'm sure he'll be back. I take no side in any of this, suffice it to say occasionally on a public forum one needs to develop a thicker skin. Equally, one of the most tiresome attributes of the Wam pre-meltdown was the flurry of 'snowflake' accusations against a spiralling culture of casual aggression. People are different and have different thresholds for what might constitute having a laugh to some and bullying to another. I'm all for the former and ca

  2. My first WAM show today and I'm so glad to have gone. Highlights for me were Fourlegs' Dalis (rm 216), NonSmokingMan in rm 219 and the Thorens with the mono Decca, Cable Monkey's room, the Audio Note Oto system and SCIDB's very musical system in rm 124. Just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the exhibitors - clear that everyone put in an enormous effort - I had a fabulous time and was a pleasure to meet many of you.

  5. At 08:00 I decided the snow was just too bad. Posted I wasn't going. At 10:00 I thought bugger it, I'll give it a try. Getting out of the Ironbridge Gorge was a nightmare but got through. Arrived at 12:15 - crap journey. Should have been there by 11:45. Worth it though as it was good to meet up with a number of people again. Trip home no problem at all.

  6. Gotta say the Dalis sounded absolutely brilliant. Should have kept mine and pimped them. Nice to meet up with Alfie in there. Looking trim and well dude. Robins/ Steve's AN set up is as complete and consistent sound as you could ask for. I'd love that system. Another stand out sound for me...the Revox speakers. So easy to listen to and so complete sounding without being loud. The small Kef refs playing a bit of Cure sounded superb. Impressive denon monster integrated driving them. Ian's Pass / DIY set up - beautiful looking and sounding. Lots of depth, refinement and sweetn

  8. I have just put a Meridian M80 in a bin liner and it's going to the tip. I bought it near the end of it's production. It was announced in 2010 but this must have been a couple of years after that. After I bought it, it went on a shelf and had light usage in the bedroom ever since. The sound was lovely and it lived up to all of the reviews except for the slight transformer hum that was a design fault and is common to a few Meridian components. A couple of weeks ago, the trim over the CD drawer fell off. I took it to Robert Taussig's in London to get it repaired. Taussig's were

  9. Just got to my PC after the journey home with Edd. Sonically, I've not heard a better show - the rooms work much better with hifi gear in them than most of the Scalford rooms. Highlights were, without hesitation, The Reel BBC's room with the Rogers LS5/8s, Quad signal splitting amps and the reel to reel machines, followed by the guy who was running the active powered Philips MFB 545 speakers - great fun. All things considered, as a punter, I thoroughly enjoyed the show and it was fantastic looking at the program, finding a system I wanted to hear and being able to find it without hav

  10. What a wonderful weekend! I enjoyed it thoroughly. Met some Wammers I knew from Harrogate show, and some new acquaintences. Enjoyed babysitting the rooms for Occasional Thinker and HoopsOnToast. So many really good systems to enjoy. Daves's (Occ.Think.) room was a delght. The 80's Revox speakers sounded really good, I could easily have lived with that system. So many came and listened and made positive comments. Babysitting for Hoops was a scary affair, as he didn't tell me that someone was coming to his room to take an Audio Research Pre and Power out of their boxes and take th

  11. Well done to everyone, I enjoyed babysitting Andy's stuff in 220 and mooching about the rooms. Everything I heard today was great, for me the best show so far in terms of listening pleasure. I think it's fair to say that by the law of averages there are some rooms you come out of having not enjoyed the setup or the tunes etc. Not so this year, didn't hear one thing I didn't like. In fact everything was so good I couldn't really pick out any standout rooms either. Well done everyone.

  15. That was a good weekend! I have to admit I was a bit sceptical, going to a new venue with very different rooms, but I've come home feeling chuffed with the results. I liked every system I heard over the last couple of days and the atmosphere was spot on as usual. The hotel at Kegworth isn't as mad as Scalford from an exhibitor pov, but the ease of access for visitors and the lift and wide corridors for anyone with any kind of disability make it a clear winner for me. No need for P&R either. Really easy access by road and easy to find. I'd like to say a huge thank you to

  16. Just home and unpacked. We had room 121 on the first floor. The shallow and short staircases made lifting heavy gear to your room a breeze. The proximity of the lift to the reception was also helpful. Parking very close to the entrance was spot on and the location is definitely easily accessible from the North and South. The rooms were slightly larger than Scalford, which was a bonus, though there was also more furniture in rooms which impinged on the usable space. Any removals were also done by the exhibitors and I did miss the room sweep in the morning! I thought the venue was excelle

  19. What a morning… 8:00 I made a snowman. 8:10 A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn’t made a snow woman. 8:15 I made a snow woman. 8:17 The nanny of the neighbours complained about the voluptuous chest on the snow woman. 8:20 The gay couple living across the street complained that it could have been two snowmen instead. 8:25 The neighbours on the left, who are vegans, complained that the orange nose whilst being a carrot, needed to be something else because food is for eating and not to decorate a snowman and woman with. 8:28 I am being called a racist b

I have however jumped on my daughters (5) new interest in Slot-Cars (Scalextric) and have been indulging myself tweaking the cars to look better and work with modern digital control systems.

  26. If you are going to quote people, at least use the words they actually used rather than re-quote someone else's interpretation of what someone else said. I presume that was aimed at the person who was upset by the comment... if so, why would you have a dig at someone who has just experienced the death of someone close to them?

  29. I'm lost for words. Saying thank you doesn't go far enough, but I'm most taken by everyone's kind comments and I concede with parcelmonkey's posting above. I think for all concerned that it is best I step back for a while, otherwise it becomes a sideshow of the worst kind. Thank you all again.

  30. I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the members who lugged, carried, plugged in, persevered, tolerated, played, exhibited, proudly displayed and hopefully enjoyed today’s epic show. As a mere visitor I’d like to say a huge thank you. Very much enjoyable. in each (most) rooms I used the Shazam app to capture what I was hearing. I’ve added those tracks to Spotify as a playlist. Many of you will suffer feint spells from such a playback method but it’s my capture of what I heard today. Many of these tracks were new to me... and that’s one of the primary reasons for the 2:30 hour t

  31. Hi everybody great show, have to agree the sounds this year were by far the best I've heard over the years and the venue is much easier to get to from most places. Hope the weather is better for next year.

  32. No, they are pretty standard boxes from the 12inch HPD's. Just modified to take the 10 inch driver. The crossover is an aftermarket affair but doesn't stray far from the original design.

  33. I am afraid the weather has stopped me from attending as well, really disappointed but I got caught out by the first wave of the Beast from the east & ended up stuck in my car for many hours, didn't get to my destination & because of my health issues was poorly for a week afterwards. We hardly ever get snow down here but there is quite a lot & I have been keeping an eye on the weather warnings on my route & know I would be stupid to risk trying. That is another ticket not used, I hope it doesn't affect too many after the effort many 'Wammers have made lugging their systems ther

  34. Made it! Thank god for the gritters! Thank you all for all, the time and effort you put into getting to Kegworth and setting it all up. I enjoyed the lot! What did I learn? I got some great advice about using Raspberry Pi's, and about streaming, which I've never been into before. Might try it now! What sounds did I enjoy most? Cable Monkey's vinyl setup! What did I miss most? I really missed the BIG setups in BIG rooms. And Stamford's New & Used Vinyl. Thanks to you all, guys. A very worthwhile show.

  37. This is the view from my room out over the Kegworth hotel car park this morning, looking towards the M1. You'd have to say there was more than a dusting of snow, but really not much more. The roads look clear and the traffic seems to be having no trouble at all. VB

  39. Had a great night last night. Invited two fellas I hadn't met before to have a quick listen in my room. Two hours later, we parted having shared a love of jazz and introduced a combination of Bill Frisell, Alice Coltrane, Mattew Halsall and others. Now that's what the Wam is about!

  43. Aww you are no fun - you miss the point - to you what you like are fabulous .. to me what I like is fabulous ... I would never ridicule your choices. It is a bit like this there are a lot of people who think Aston Martin's are the car to own, others think Ferrari and the old boy over the road his Honda Jazz and never the twain shall meet, where they close their minds to alternatives or try to foist theirs on other people. So when asked for advice I would never provide one choice as when I worked in the trade many years ago .. advise a customer against his will he is of the same opinion still
